What thread snagged you?

I can’t find the thread that snagged me …

Mrs Spinctercranium and the insurance policy. Had me in tears. Wish I’d bookmarked that one or printed it.

Lucy

Can’t remember the title of the thread but someone had posted a link to the ‘Passing through doors’ thread at another forum. I followed it here and thought it was fascinating.

After that I occasionally came her to steal an idea for a game for the forum I’m part of.

Unfortunately, the replies at that forum didn’t hold a candle to some of the hilarious posts here. Especially the good news/bad news game.

I was instantly impressed with the level of education that the majority of posters seemed to display when I first came here. I was starting my freshman year of college at a school that I was very above, academically – most of the classes taught things I’d mastered my in my first two years of high school – and I was thrilled to find a place where I could have a conversation without having to start from scratch every time.

“Okay, Who Ordered The Phoenix?” displayed broad cultural knowledge and, at the same time, almost staggering flippancy. It’s the thread I always point to for an example of my favorite thing about the SDMB: We Know Stuff, And It’s Silly!

That, and the thread I can’t find right now, which was a debate about how Falstaff was ever knighted in the first place. It was determined that he won it in a pie-eating contest, and Nicely-Nicely Hotspur came second.

Not the message board, per se, but the article by The Master on the calorie count of sperm.

After reading the books and finding out there was this thing called a Message Board ( which I had no idea of what that was…oh, I was so naive.) there was some posts in the book from these twisted people called Dopers.

One in particular Bermuda wrote some funny stuff on what was seen behind the mysterious door at the Vatican/St. Peter’s Basilica that is only opened once ever X amount of years.

Blame Bermuda for me being here.
And I blame the lot of you for keeping me around. Every time I feel tired of it all and decide I should take a break from this place, someone comes up with some great discussion, pitting or question thread and I am hooked.
Quitting heroin would be easier.

I hate you all.

But in a good way.

All too true. I began nosing around the boards again a few days ago, and I just couldn’t stand it. Signed back up, and have been blowharding ever since. Why’d I ever leave this place?

Auntie Em’s thread on The Missing Co-Worker was what did it for me. Then, the general tenor of the place, the camaraderie, the level of writing skills of so many posters was what kept me here. Their knowledge and expertise and experiences are fascinating to read about. This is the one place I know of where I can go and not have to deal with the truly clueless or intellectually challenged.

I also wonder, MW-K, why did you leave this place? From time to time, I still think coat-like thoughts.

We don’t know, but you are strictly forbidden from ever doing it again!

For me, it was the “What if Lord if the Rings had been written by someone else?” thread. I made it through the first dozen or so pages at work one day, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
