4:35 is when the alarm goes off weekdays. That’s since last December when I made a pledge to Mrs. HTB to lose some weight and get more exercise. The only time that seems to be really sustainable is in the early morning, and even though we have free membership in a nice gym facility as a job perk, I find it easier to walk in the mornings. For a while I would get up at 5:00, but when I make my mile and a third circle around my neighborhood, I kept being spooked by another person walking to work near the same time. Spooky to hear footsteps behind you in the predawn darkness, even if you KNOW that there’s no danger. So I pushed it back to the present setting and all works well.
The strangest thing is that I’ve always been a night owl, getting to bed by 12:30 or 1 and getting up at 7 or 7:30.
But about 4 years ago a local radio station asked me if I’d be willing to come in early and record stuff for their midday show. (I spent 20 years in radio before moving to newspaper work)
And a couple of years ago I married a lady with a different schedule, and have gradually rotated more to the get-to-bed-early schedule.
Also, I discovered that I had sleep apnea, and with a CPAP machine for the past year or so, I get by on much less sleep.
Strange how the fates play with us…
