What to do.... What to do....

I hate my job. Actually, its not my job I hate, its my employer. My employer lies, owes back pay, acts like its my fault that they won a contract to run an operation that they have no clue how to run. We have gone through 4 site managers and 6 shift managers since July when they took over. Each manager has had their own agenda and ideas on how to run the operation, and none of them listen the employees on what needs to be done. They just revised our holiday schedule to take away 3 holidays (out of 9 originally). They gave us the 3 back as “floating holidays” or basically vacation days. While this might sound nice, what it means is that they don’t have to pay us holiday pay for working things like Christmas Eve, or the day after Thanksgiving, which, because we are a 24/7 operation are manditory. So they actually save a bunch of money by doing this. I am, however well paid for my position and since this company took over, I have gotten, roughly, raises totaling about $10,000

bottom line? If you’re not happy there, quit! Unless you can’t afford to, can’t find another job, etc…

Well… You could quit. Or you could kidnap your emplioyer in a madcap scheme to get some kind of ransom money, have it go horribly awry, and sell the movie rights. Of course most states have laws keeping you from rofiting from selling them, but we’d be entertained.

What was that movie some yrs back called? “Swimming with Sharks”? (or something like that…) pretty much covers how to deal with abusive/overly demanding bosses in a generally unpleasant work environment.

It’s always better to find a job while you have a job. Keep that in mind at all times. I speak from 7 months of being severely underemployed experience (how many waiters do you know with a MBA?).

So, my advice is to grit your teeth while you can. Use the time you’re there to pad your resume, search for a new position, network, etc. When you find something, jump. Hopefully it won’t be too long. Plus, if they should decide to fire you (no reason they should, but I’m just saying), you can draw unemployment.

My $0.02.

Thanks everyone. I think I’m staying put for a while. The time away from my family just won’t be worth it. I figure I might as well stay put until I get the perfect job. It’ll probably never happen, but till then its off to print out more resumes.
