Yeah, those five names seem to come up a lot…
handy, Guinastaisa, tracer, Coldfire, and SPOOFE
(I don’t think that’s in order… but yeah… those would be them)

Using the ol’ profile test I get this ranking for those mentioned.
handy has 15219
Guinastasia has 13830
Coldfire has 12,556
tracer had 11,054 post in his Profile
SPOOFE has 10,255
To test other names, just plug them into the standard profile link:

Nah, SPOOFE might be in the top ten, but not the top five.
As of now:
15,219 handy
13,831 Guinastasia
12,556 **Coldfire **
12,272 **Libertarian **
11,055 **tracer **
10,255 **SPOOFE **
There’s also:
10,112 Duck Duck Goose
9,648 tomndeb
9,417 mangetout
A few weeks ago I got bored and tried to compile a list of posters with high post counts. Here’s what has been compiled so far. (The post counts are 3-4 weeks old, so that’s why they are lower than what has been posted above.)
handy – 14995
Guinastasia – 13274
Coldfire – 12200
Libertarian – 12159
tracer – 10825
SPOOFE – 10155
Duck Duck Goose – 9932
tomndebb – 9402
iampunha – 9168
Mangetout – 9046
Arnold Winkelried – 8848
matt_mcl – 8735
Ukulele Ike – 8547
Polycarp – 8346
sailor – 8232
erislover – 8112
Johnny L.A. – 8084
OpalCat – 8058
Scylla – 7930
Esprix – 7917
wring – 7856
Ringo – 7672
Chronos – 7580
UncleBeer – 7559
pldennison – 7493
Wow, lel! Did you do that by just looking us up individually?
So there’s the current top ten:
15,219 handy
13,831 Guinastasia
12,556 **Coldfire **
12,272 **Libertarian **
11,055 **tracer **
10,255 SPOOFE
10,112 Duck Duck Goose
9,648 tomndeb
9,423 iampunha
9,417 mangetout
In an effort of utter triviality, I looked up the posting rates of the 10,000 plus posters:
Name Total Posts Posts per Day
handy 15219 10.11
Guinastasia 13831 13.68
Coldfire 12558 9.19
Libertarian 12272 9.78
tracer 11056 7.70
SPOOFE 10255 9.25
Duck Duck Goose 10112 9.44
Based on these posting rates, Guinastasia is the only one who will overtake handy. Using Desmostylus’ formula, she will do so in (15219-13831)/(13.68-10.11)=388.8 days, or just over one year from now.
There should be some kind of ceremony. The Passing Of The Golden Keyboard or something to that effect. Should also involve nudity, flaming torches and electric eels.
Get on it, people!
But Guinastasia will hold the crown for only about 15 months before Q.E.D. overtakes her in August 2005:
(13831-2900)/(26.73-13.68)-(15219-13831)/(13.68-10.11)=448.8
All these calculations assume that the people in question will maintain their daily rate of posting. We’ve seen quite a few come and go.
Well, yes. And Desmostylus correctly pointed that out in his first post.
That’s how the list was compiled. I did get many name suggestions from Flamsterette_X, to whom I owe much thanks for the list. (Originally I was just looking for posters with 7500 + post counts. If any are overlooked, it is completely unintentional and I apologize.)
You want to talk fits of boredom, I just looked up all the posts per day ratios for the rest of the high post count dopers.
tomndebb 6.41
iampunha 8.95
Mangetout 13.14
Arnold Winkelried 6.89
matt_mcl 5.94
Ukulele Ike 6.18
Polycarp 6.44
sailor 7.42
erislover 9.14
Johnny L.A. 6.92
OpalCat 5.35
Scylla 6.76
Esprix 6.61
wring 7.77
Ringo 5.29
Chronos 6.53
UncleBeer 5.27
pldennison 4.98
So the line of who shall be overtaken goes like thus, adding a few more for comparison:
handy, Mangetout, Guinastasia, NoClueBoy (3133 posts, 15.54 ppd), Diogenes the Cynic (3169 posts, 15.59 ppd), Q.E.D. (2909 posts, 26.79 ppd).
Quoth Ringo:
On the other hand, I suspect that someone who’s stuck around for over 8000 posts is pretty likely to keep on posting. We wouldn’t be here at all, still, if we didn’t have that certain stick-to-it-iveness. Sort of like cooked spaghetti on the ceiling.
Top 25, though… I never realized I was quite so pathetic. And if current rates keep up, it looks like I’ll peak at about 15 or 16.
Not sure you’ve got that last part right, lel.
The order in which those posters overtake handy is:
Guinastasia 389 days
Q.E.D. 738 days
Mangetout 1,915 days
Diogenes the Cynic 2,199 days
NoClueBoy 2,226 days
BTW, Q.E.D. won’t get the crown for 833 days, because after he catches handy, it’ll take a bit longer to catch up to Guin.
It isn’t important at all, but it is on the borderline of being useful information as it is roughly indicative of the member’s duration of stay and amount of participation/interaction - this might mean nothing at all, but it shouldn’t - someone who has been around for a (say) year or more and has made several thousand posts should know the ropes - stuff like not posting unsupported assertions in a debate, not linking to porn, not asking about the ~gry word, etc…
Of course, the trolls call this state of knowing the ropes ‘sucking up to the clique’ or some such, but they are just plain wrong (or so it says on page 109 of the clique handbook).
Oops, I was trying to make a shortcut again. Thanks for the correction, Desmostylus
The trouble with trying to come up with any kind of rule or investigation into post counts is that Tuba (most understandably) frowns very sulkily on any kind of data harvest from the system. This is on the grounds that data harvest uses up valuable hamster-resource.
I sometimes dream at night of being handed a list of all posters together with post count and date of registration. In the more kinky of these dreams, this is appended to a list of these dopers ages and locations. Oh, the statistics I produce from these! Oh, the correlations!
But even the wildest of these dreams eventually goes back to the boring old handmaidens eventually. Damn those handmaidens.
I did some analysis once that you might be interested in. Click on the link in my never-ever-used sig for details.

Boy, did I read that wrong. Before seeing the full message, I thought Damn…he’s looked up over ten thousand posters (members) and then it hit me.
Still groggy from the late last night margaritas I guess.
I never even noticed when I passed 1000 posts. And now, they just keep coming. Part of my thingy is an inability to complete a thought in one post.
