What was it that was so special about Norma Zimmer (and her predecessors) that earned her this title?
Well, don’t make fun of me, but when my parents visit, they always try to get me to watch Lawrence Welk on PBS.
I think Norma Zimmer was chosen because she had a good singing voice. I don’t know where the term “Champagne Lady” comes from. I would guess that champagne is a premium wine, and the champagne lady has a premium voice?

If memory serves Welk’s bouncey music was referred to as “Champagne music” and the bubble machine was there to add to the effect. I assume the “Champagne lady” was there to keep with the theme.
