…although, as a matter of fact, I think someone actually does play a few bars of “Dueling Banjos” onscreen at one point, as a joke.
Anyway, it’s a movie I remember seeing scraps of on TV when I was a kid. Sometime between about…1988-1994, I think. It might even have been something my parents rented.
I mostly remember scenes of the delightfully creepy and atmospheric setting—notably, a shot of some hillbilly/cajun guy chasing a pig around a muddy yard while waving a confederate flag like a cape (er, the guy was waving it, not the pig); and I believe some kind of chase/murder scene on a rather misty swamp or lake, possibly in a air boat.
Production value and film style looked high-quality, 80s-ish. Apparently modern-day setting. Not a lot of music, IIRC. And the most I remember about the cast was that there was as least one women among them.
I know, vague as all hell. But I’m finally curious enough to ask—and maybe it’ll jog someone’s memory. Any ideas?
The cajuns on this board will be offended that you mentioned them in the same sentence as hillbillies. And the hillbillies on this board don’t know what a cajun is.
That was it! A little video browsing confirmed it—although it looks like the creepy hick was chasing goats with the confederate flag, not a pig. A fine detail lost to my five year old mind, it seems*—the mud was just as gray as I remembered it, though.
Another ghost laid to rest. Thank you!
*Don’t worry, disinterestedly catching a couple of minutes of an “R” rated movie as a kid was probably far less warping than regularly watching what the Disney channel was running back then.
