He was in a television studio having a pre-scheduled interview with a professional journalist.
Even Donald Trump should have been able to figure out this wasn’t a private conversation.

Bullshit. You and everyone else who voted for Donald Trump had a choice to make and you all made the wrong choice.
Donald Trump is a worse person than Hillary Clinton. And Donald Trump is a worse politician than Hillary Clinton. So there was no good reason to pick Donald Trump instead of Hillary Clinton.
Dude, seriously, you’ve got to stop this knee-jerk, “Oh, yeah? Well, Dems are bad, too!” argument. It doesn’t help your case to try to say the other side does it, too, especially when you’re using false equivalency. Think back to when you were a kid. If your parents scolded you for making a mess, would they have let you off the hook for saying your brother did the same? Of course not. You’d still get grounded.
And yes, of course I’d “turn off” a friend, if by “turning off” you mean breaking political ties with him and not blocking justice. That’s true regardless of whether he’s a friend or a “friend.” If you had a friend you knew was a sexual predator, you’d cover for him, knowing he was going to continue to prey on women???
I thought he was on a bus with Billy Bush shooting the shit.
So by this post I take it that you concede that Trump did, in fact, announce that he’s a rapist, and that he is, in fact, a racist, and that you did, in fact, vote for him while knowing that he said these statements that you now concede do clearly admit to the fact he’s a rapist.
I for one have never voted for somebody who I knew was on record as having confessed to being a rapist at the time I voted for them.
So we are in fact not the same. We’re diametrically the opposite of one another on this point, in fact.
If the Democrats nominated people like Donald Trump, I would stop being a good loyal Democrat.
Trump does whenever one of his associates gets in legal trouble. Bus, meet former Trump friend you get to run over. Too bad all that money you raised for your golden child candidate won’t get you out of this.
and the Repubs don’t? Which party do you think is more guilty of accepting cashola and looking the other way during Trump’s term? Hey, big oil wants us to roll back more environmental regulations. Hey, the Saudis just murdered a journalist in cold blood, dismembered his body, and snuck the parts out of the embassy he was visiting. Hey, the Republican version of Weinstein is up for a Supreme Court seat. Mo money, mo money, MO MONEY!
“Number one, she’s not my type.”
“Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.”
Everyone keeps focusing on the first sentence, when it’s the *second *sentence that’s the important one. Grabbing them by the pussy is just an *example *of what he’s used to being able to get away with.
FWIW, I work in the entertainment industry. What happens is that they place wireless microphones on you and it is really easy to forget you have them on and taking them off between takes is usually discouraged. I guarantee you a library of embarrassing recordings could be created of people, both liberal and conservative, saying not so nice things.
The other aspect is that the recording took place in his trailer. The trailer is a space where talent can change clothes, sometimes shower, use the bathroom, relax, and have private conversations. It’s like a mini-aparment. Trump had every expectation that his conversation would be private as he would in his own home.
Is this meant to be a defense?
Yes.
I know people as liberal as you are who inadvertently say racist and perhaps admit to criminal behavior in private. Would you be comfortable being recored 24 hours a day? Are you 100% certain everything that comes out of your mouth would pass the politically correct test?
I was once talking with the producer of a Black sitcom ( a Black person himself) and this person claimed that his success was based on casting various shades of Black actors. I couldn’t believe he said it. To a white guy no less.
So it seems that Trump’s private thoughts and musings are the ones we should really be afraid of.
Who cares about passing “the politically correct test”? I care about not bragging about sexual assault. I’m quite certain that you’d never record me bragging about sexual assault, even if you went back to my immature teenage/early twenties years.
This is not remotely equivalent to bragging about sexual assault.
I’m very sympathetic to actors. As such, I would feel horrible if a talented Black actor did not get role because the production already had too many dark skinned actors cast. Maybe you wouldn’t have problem with that. But I do.
No idea how you think this conflicts with anything I wrote. I’m criticizing Trump for bragging about sexual assault. Some anecdote about an actor doesn’t excuse Trump’s bragging about sexual assault and violating the consent of women on multiple occasions (he did it on Stern as well with a different story).
The relevant point is that Trump commits sexual assault. You seem to be saying that that’s OK, because Trump didn’t want us to find out about it.
No, no…
It’s okay that Trump bragged about sexual assault because the Clintons knew someone who committed sexual assault.
Another aspect is the aphrodisiac power of celebrity. I have a friend with a teenage son who has appeared on television shows and is very good looking. In addition to tweens and teens, this child has grown women approaching him online as well as finding his phone number to express their attraction to him. It’s literally the stuff of male fantasies.
Some people here may not understand this because Trump was mostly an East thing, but Trump was very famous before his television show or the Presidency. He was the Man in addition to being wealthy, charismatic, and good looking. So when I hear of that some women will go out of their way to hookup with a teenage boy they saw on television, it’s not hard to believe some women with do anything to be with someone like Trump who is a thousand times more famous.
When they’ve attached microphones to you and you’re talking to a reporter, you’re not shooting the shit.
