What was your proudest moment as a Moderator/Administrator for Straight Dope?

I always wonder what kind of satisfaction you guys derive from moderating these forums. Was there a moment when you responded to some criticism in a way that you really liked? Was there a thank you letter from a member for your work in the fight against ignorance? Is there anything like that at all or does it all stop at the Straight Dope coffee mug?

I don’t recall who it was, but I think it was an ex moderator who said that the best part of the role was the fun conversing with fellow moderators.

I would have thought the best part was the hundreds of terabytes of bootleg pornography and pirated software the mods keep hidden away in their private section of the message board.

Ah, perhaps that was the fun this functionary was referring to.

It’s gotta be starting every day saying, " Hmmmmm, what jackboots to wear to day? Steel toed? 5 inch Fcuk-me pumps? Decisions…decisions…"

and I picture all the male mods in the pumps.

OOOh, am I the first Mod to reply?

My proudest moment was definitely the line regarding a 007-named sock: “Banned. James Banned.”

Knock. Knock.
Who’s there?
Humour police.

OK, CK, step away from the shaggy dog story.

Look out! He’s got a pun…

manhattan had the whole “As it just so happens, I’m the fucking hall monitor” line, and the subsequent “banhattan” typo.

Hm, I guess mine would be when Dex came to town (I wasn’t the purpose of the visit, I just happened to be there), and brought me an autographed copy of one of the Straight Dope books.

Autographed by whom?

(I’d love anything autographed by C K Dexter Haven!)

WRS

I took a SD book to one of the mod meets, and got it autographed by everyone who attended. This included most of the moderating staff at the time, Ed Zotti, and Cecil’s first editor. Later on, I took that book to a Dopefest, and got it autographed by quite a few of the old-time posters, mostly people who had been on the old AOL boards.

As for my proudest moment…I guess it would have to be when I bestowed custom titles on banned posters. I know that many people enjoyed those titles. I also changed Otto’s title to ASSHAT once, in response to a remark that he made. He was very good-natured about it. I’m not supposed to make custom titles any more, so please don’t ask me to change one.

Lynn, did you get a chance to drop in here?:

When someone has a problem and I’m able to fix it and there’s a happy ending, that gives me a little rush.

Every so often, someone (or a whole bunch of someones) does something really special here . . . that tickles me too. It’s those little moments when the Teeming Millions show how fabulous they can be that makes it all worthwhile. I live for those times.

your humble TubaDiva
Yes, I’m weird that way.

There are no problems. There are only opportunities.

I see roger really is in corporate management.

I’d call it a win-win empowerment strategy that will synergize our core competencies.

You might want to refrain from using that sort of language outside the Pit.

You got it, Lib! As Ol’ Blue Eyes himself put it: “You got to accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative”.

Not forgetting, of course, not to mix with Mr. In-Between…

Was Francis Cecil???

Well, my guess is it would be when █████████ banned █████████ for █████████ing. But the mod’s will probably “censor” this post so you’ll never know.

Just kidding, really!

How do you get those black bars in there, Ponder?
