What We Do In The Shadows - the tv series

“I’m only listening to HALF his opinion!”

Best show in years! Loved Pee-wee and Trejo in the episode.

When Danny Trejo started offering tech support I just about lost it.

Evan Rachel Wood: “You don’t have to say my whole name. Just Evan–that’s fine.” (She was, of course, a vampire on True Blood.)

And Pee-Wee—Paul Reubens—was a vampire in the movie Buffy the Vampire Slayer; while Danny Trejo was a vampire in From Dusk Till Dawn. In fact, every celeb cameo was by someone who’d played a vampire; per Slate:

If you haven’t seen it, by the way, I highly recommend Paul Reubens’ death scene in the Buffy movie. Classic hamming that goes on longer than you’d think possible.

Not quite all of them.

True–Bautista’s connection with show co-creator Taika Waititi is their mutual involvement in Marvel Universe movies.

(That was in the article I linked, so I should have mentioned it in that post.)

I love that Tilda and the rest were just playing themselves.

It was funny, and it was the perfect solution for a short (~20 minutes) show. They couldn’t have established characters–names, back-stories, etc.–for so many new people in the time they had.

It kind of reminded me of the similar gag in Men in Black. But this worked on its own level.

I didn’t get the ‘Rob’ connection and mentioned to my partner that it’s too bad “that Twilight dude” didn’t do a cameo.

Kristen Schaal (the gliding lady) wasn’t a vampire but she was in “Flight of the Conchords” with Jermaine Clement.

If you aren’t hip to it, Clement, Waititi and Johnny Brugh were the vampires in the original movie and they revived the roles for this episode.

This show is fantastic, it makes me laugh out loud!!

For that matter, where was Barnabas Collins???

(Seriously, if they tried to represent all vampire-related stories, they would have needed to set the scene in a stadium.)

I had the last 2 episodes on my DVR and was finally able to watch them this weekend. I thought the episode where the Baron aka Barren wanted to go out on the town was one of the best so far. I laughed out loud so many times. Even my husband, who isn’t into that kind of comedy stopped as he walked by and got into it. Of course, I had to pause numerous times and explain things he wasn’t privy to.

Bump

Just discovered this show! What a hoot!

It’s up on Hulu now if anyone is interested.

(I’m currious to know how they can afford all those cameos. lol)

If you like the show make sure you watch the movie.

I saw in an interview with one of the writers that they weren’t filmed together at the same time. They reached out to anybody who played vampires in film, filmed them separately, and then combined all in one scene. As for how they could afford to, I think there’s some actor union thing that covers what to charge for cameos that isn’t too cost-prohibitive. Some actors do cameos for free because it’s fun, and they happen to be in the neighborhood. Wesley Snipes didn’t come to the studio and did his cameo over Skype.

The show is back, tonight! FX (as before). It’s a 10-episode season.

Matt Berry is a busy guy, what with this and Year of the Rabbit (shown on IFC in the US).

I know! I just stumbled across this last night because my DVR had recorded it.

I loved the early episodes of season 1, but then it seemed to drag quite a bit until the final ep. I enjoyed S2E1, and chuckled a few times, and will certainly continue to watch. Hard to recapture that “freshness” of the early episodes, though.

Got it on the DVR last night but haven’t had time to watch it yet. The movie was awesome. Season 1 was very good. Crossing my fingers.

The 3 vampires all having ghosts since they all technically died was interesting. Also Guillermo may ent up fully snapping, that could be fun.
