First two episodes of season 5 are out. Started out, I think, better than the last couple of seasons started.

I will watch it tonight. Hulu has them up on a one day delay.
This first episode this year was hilarious and I looked and saw it was written by the creators of the show and the movie. Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi.
The second one was OK.
So is it obvious to say that Guillermo’s Van Helsing heritage/blood is suppressing his vampirism?
It could be not the obvious reason–but it is probably the obvious reason.
BTW, might want to spoiler tag that for now.
The roofers had to take down our satellite dish…
Okay, episode 3 was possibly one of the weirdest TV episodes ever made.
I really didn’t enjoy it all. Not even a smile…and I’m a fan!
As you mentioned: mostly just weird.
I haven’t watched an episode yet. I’m letting them build up on my DVR for when I have a crummy weather day. I want to savor them!
I’ll admit, the premise of the 3rd episode was good (vampires do a Pride parade!) and it started off strong but it didn’t live up to my expectations. I’m not a fan of Dolly.
I would watch this show if it was nothing but Kayvan Novak doing monologues in character as Nandor. That accent, his cluelessness… one of the funniest characters ever. He roped me into this show from his first appearance in season 1.
There are also moments in which I have impure thoughts about Nadja. She’s like what Roger Ebert said about the Borg Queen: Sexy in a way I’ve never seen before, but makes me want to keep an open mind.
Episode 4 was much better than episode 3. I loved the council of energy vampires.
I had the opposite reaction. S5 E1 was kind of meh for me, but I think S2 got it right back to what I expected, and so was E3. Will see E4 later today. Still a wonderfully creative show with so much potential.
There really needs to be an animated Colin Robinson spin-off. With a flying hair frog sidekick.
The council was fantastic! I didn’t know every participant but the ones I know (Jo Firestone, Martha Kelly, Hannibal Buress) were PERFECTLY cast. From what I’ve read elsewhere, so were Aparna Nancherla and Gregg Turkington. Like, I cannot think of a better Supreme Energy Vampire than Martha Kelly.
Traditional vampires doing vampire shit in the modern everyday world remains a hilarious premise for this show, but the whole Energy Vampire thing really brings it to a whole other level.
I’m out of touch, I didn’t know a single one of them.
I thought s5e1 was a littles slow but they were setting up the new story line for Gizmo and the rest so no big deal. Since then every episode has been a winner! It’s turning into the best season so far. The local news episode was incredibly good. And I haven’t seen last night’s episode yet but expecting good bad things to happen.
The original movie was a nice creative work that the TV show has now far exceeded. The continuing story arcs bring the characters to unlife so much more.
I dunno if any of them are really famous.
Martha Kelly was superb in Zach Galifinakis’ show Baskets (where she basically played an energy-vampire-like character).
Jo Firestone is from Joe Pera Talks With You where she plays a music teacher/prepper. Not necessarily an energy vampire character but the show has exhaustive low-energy levels.
Hannibal Buress I happen to know from the show Broad City but he’s more famous as a standup. He’s known for a very laid back delivery. You could tell he was having tons of fun with his character here.
Aparna Nancherla, I’ve seen her pop up in a couple character roles. She’s got a vibe like Sam Lloyd, who you might remember as Ted from Scrubs. Only younger, female and Indian.
I don’t really know anything about Greg Turkington but people were excited to see him!
I’d put Local News up there with Jackie Daytona as one of the best episodes of the show.
“Nandor DeLaurentis” was just a brilliant bit of writing
Five seasons in and they still manage weird, unexpected twists. The Island of Doctor Gizmo.
