You ever read a post and immediately think “you 100% made this up?”. Over in the “Will Joe Biden pardon Hunter” thread, someone posted that they lost a $25 bet over the pardon. And not just whether Joe would pardon Hunter, but down in the minutia of whether it would be a pardon for a specific crime or rather a broad brush pardon. I’m sure that actually, really happened!
What about it seems unlikely? People make small bets like that with friends all the time.
I must be different than most because I’ve never heard of my friends making bets on very specific things like that. Friendly bets over who’s alma mater is going to win the football game, yes. This isn’t like that. He’s using it as an excuse to make it sound like Hunter has more to hide with Burisma. More of the “Hunter’s laptop” bs.

We’ve had threads and threads on betting as distinct from gambling.
Some folks consider any opinion on any topic not backed by a willingness to bet on it to be one lacking in conviction / sincerity. “Money talks; BS walks.”
Other folks find the idea of betting semi-trivial sums on [whatever] to be simply juvenile bravado-wankery.
I (and presumably you) fall into the latter group.

Also, maybe it is a regional thing? I have never seen this behavior and I’ve had a lot of friends and family, and participated in a lot of different activities over my lifetime (I’m mid-50s).
Most times I love the free-flowing nature of discussions in the Pit.
But every once in a while, we get a thread like this where people can’t take the discussion to THE GODDAMN RIGHT THREAD.
You want to point out someone being stupid in a thread? Fine, do it here. But arguments about the topic in a thread… Well, there’s already a thread right there for them.
To be fair, in a thread about folks being stupid, some amount of argument from the folks named is kind of inevitable. It’s already happened several times and is one reason this thing is so long.
