After opinionatizing lavishly on the subject of WCYUAAWSIO (When Can You Use An Acronym Without Spelling It Out?), I have stopped. The only thing we’ll ever all agree on is that everyone has different standards for when you need to spell an acronym.
My own standard is simple and clear: if I already know the acronym, it’s perfectly fine to use it without explanation. If I don’t recognize an acronym that someone else used without spelling out, they were wrong.
That’s really pretty simple, isn’t it? I don’t know why all you Dopers can’t seem to get that.
Before everyone digs in their heels on this, a reminder, Beck has their own thread in the Pit. I say this as a poster, not a mod, but if you guys insist on the back and forth, I suspect the rest of us would like to be left out.

It’s not my fault I’m THINKING stuff and might have an opinion on it.
It perturbs some people, I get that. But they are the type to get perturbed by everything I say.
They are the problem. I will not sit here and take continued abuse because of a slight they percieved. I may or may not even remember.

I also concur. I think it’s now been proposed, seconded, thirded, and fourthed that Beck hasn’t been mean to anyone on this board. Maybe a little feisty sometimes, but never mean.
If I may offer my humble opinion, you are (a) one of the more valued posters on this board, and also (b) can be an arrogant, judgmental ass sometimes. It would be nice to see more of what makes you “a” and less of what makes you “b”.
We must have different definitions of “mean.” At least once, possibly more times, she’s been warned for telling other posters (on a discussion board, no less) to shut up when she didn’t like what they were saying.

Once was misunderstood. I meant to say some akin to “I can’t believe that”
The other one I straight up told someone to “Shut up”.

They were insulting me personally. In the pit, I think. I may be wrong on that. But it was offensive anyway.
When saying shut up gets you beat up there’s a problem here.
Many many worse things have been said to people on these boards. Not a peep. Just resignation that the offenders can get away with it, repeatedly.
It’s a sad way to have to be. To look over your shoulder at every post. So you don’t offend, irritate or bother the sensitive ones. The ones that could skip over your post. The ones who pit every person for wildly inflated butt-hurt.
I could flag everytime I see it happen. But then there’s that “don’t flag too often” non-rule that will catch you up.
Looks like Beck addressed the offensive “shut up”. How that equals “mean” to you, I don’t know. Has she been mean in other ways? Not trying to grill you, it’s just that the Beck in my head is the exact opposite of mean (yes, I have mental files on all of you 
). I can name at least five posters who should be called out every day but aren’t.
Does this all originate with a particular thread / post?
Ah yes, that faux Southern “niceness” and feigned injury in the same vein as “Bless Your Heart”. Sealion adjacent, at the very least.

For someone who’s “never been mean”, she sure apologize a lot for it. I came into this thread with the sole purpose of calling out Czarcasm because he claimed that Johanna had “attacked” a homeless person by offering them food. The irony is that Beck even posted that Czarcasm had gone too far. Then, a few posts later, she gave him a pass and said that he had never attacked anyone. I stated my reasons why I disagreed with giving him a pass and showed where he HAD attacked someone. She responded with, “oh well, who really cares” and said I was just trying to start crap with her.
I wasn’t. I was simply pointing out that I didn’t agree with her. I was ready to drop the whole thing until she claimed that she is never mean. right after calling me an asshole. I disagree with that as well. Here are a few posts from this thread. You can decide for yourself as to whether Beck is ever mean.
