I cannot speak to his Common Core concerns, but I had a look at his triangle thread, and I was like, “What gave rise to this?” Triangles are triangles; you can learn all you need to know from watching The Point.
Nobody needs to learn about triangles; they are simply three-sided shapes. What’s the point of that thread?

Thanks. That’s actually very helpful for those of us who grew up in non-English speaking countries - I remember a lot of my junior high school geometry, I just don’t know any terms you’d understand.
Yes, his other contributions to long-dormant threads were sorta obsessive info about time or measurements or units or such. Gave off a very “on the spectrum” vibe, and especially when taken collectively. But they were factually accurate, germane to the topic (if a bit esoteric), and most relevant now, complete thoughts that stood alone.
This triangle business reminds me of that odd-but-not-a-problem poster cannonkuo who likes to ask the meaning of one sentence extracted from some written history of the Falklands Islands war. Giving us no context at first until asked, then he gives us the rest of the nearby paragraph(s) and then we can explain the full meaning of the whole situation to him to his satisfaction.
Somehow he gets / got stuck on one turn of phrase, his mental gears clash, and it’s Game Over for him.

There are a LOT of on-the-spectrum barely-social obsessives out there IRL. Who tend to be overrepresented in the quirkier corners of online life. That somebody like that could find us and use us to occasionally satisfy some corner of their obsession seems reasonable to me.
Out of all the gin joints in all the world, they happen to walk into ours. And if they’re not too wacky, be tolerated for who they really are.
Yeah, I don’t mind obsession. If somebody gets entrenched and argumentative, I leave the thread. If they get abusive, well, that’s a different thing.
Still, if you look closely, you can almost see the nascent Timecube forming behind their eyes.

Complete bullshit. The OP of that thread was not obligated to defend Trump.
You can argue that decency might keep you from joining the attacks on Trump’s stench. But actually creating a thread was a conscious choice that is beyond decency into support.
