What were you THINKING?

Great, now my head canon is going to include that Ewoks are just highly evolved cats.

It kind of makes sense… :joy:

Ironically, and not even kidding here, my first serious girlfriend nicknamed me “Ewok.”

Im not a cat but I use one’s name on the internet.

The original FluffyBob:

Seemes like I cant use imgBB without revealing personal info so…

I’m a tree.

I’m also, however, at least part cat.

Gee, I thought you were an especially spiky grasshopper.

Heh. Imma beer.

We have a new bit of entertainment starting. It’s not really a “THINKING?” matter of some decent poster being intemperate, but it’s still fun. It might already have fizzled Fri night, or maybe will keep going on Sat once it’s daytime on the US west coast. Like a volcanic eruption, you never know how big or how long until it quits. But one can hope. And it does have the potential to get intemperate too.

In this thread, uzi is a single-minded Albertan separatist. Polite enough, but he is impervious to all info and logic that doesn’t conform to his pre-conceived world. Starting with my cite just above we see uzi posting some fresh press release. Yaay for facts. Or are they “facts”?

After a couple of other folks chime in, Der_Trihs, another totally impervious debater shows up. And wants to have a “No, you are!” tit-for-tat with uzi. This might last a while. One can only hope.

I’m reminded of the scene in Airplane with the duelling PA announcements: two talking, nobody listening.

Uzi is well known to all who have had the misfortune to cross paths with him as the living embodiment of the concept of “right-wing nutjob” of the extremist variety. For instance all the tariffs that the Orange Buffoon has illegally levied against Canada are all Mark Carney’s fault, although Uzi has never cared to explain how or why this is the case other than the fact that Carney leads the Liberal Party. To Uzi, being a liberal (either small-l or big-L) is practically a criminal offense in itself. I didn’t realize, however, that Uzi was a flat-out treasonous separatist. Fortunately, if a referendum on Alberta independence ever gets off the ground, which is extremely unlikely, it has about as much chance of passing as the chance of having a rational conversation with Uzi, which is to say, zero.

Also, he seems to be whining that Canada is somehow preventing Alberta from exploiting its oil reserves. Production has in fact been climbing year over year, and as of the latest figures a few months ago has been averaging nearly 5 million barrels a day from the oil sands alone, not to mention natural gas and other resources. But I’m not getting involved in that shit-show of an argument. Uzi is the sort that can make anyone lose their temper and the wisest recourse is to stay away.

Yep. Agree w all that and it’s not news; at least not to me.

The overlap in mentality between Texas trumpers and Alberta separatists is just about 100%. In one of my (few) contributions to that thread I pointed out that MAGA can also mean “Make Alberta Great Again”.

Albertans also resemble Texans in their resistance to facts. Which is why I predict some fun when the other fact-proof one-trick pony, Der_Trihs, decides to engage.

It’s sort of “What happens when two immovable objects collide?”

And I now see I mis-capitalized his name. FTR it’s Uzi, not uzi. Thanks for pointing that out.

As to Albertan separatism in general, even if the referendum goes down 90/10 on strong turnout, that won’t dent their enthusiasm in the least. More likely it goes down solidly on weak turnout and they can claim that all the non-voters are quiet separatists so they actually have a majority in favor.

This thread must have a good descriptive name that shows up on a Google search, because it has been revived at least twice over the the last twenty years.

Anyway, I’m struck by the similarities of the posts made by the OP and each person who has revived it.

Me neither, and I live in Alberta.

Uzi doesn’t join discussions to learn, test ideas, or solve problems. He arrives with a conclusion already locked in, then cherry-picks whatever bits of information seem to support it, while ignoring anything that doesn’t. When challenged, the response isn’t curiosity or evidence—it’s deflection, repetition, and complaint. He is an idiot and a troll.

Engagement with him isn’t a discussion, it’s just noise.

I rarely jump into the threads about Canadian politics, not because I’m not interested or don’t have views, but because invariably Uzi shows up and says something stupiid. I don’t trust myself to respond without saying something that would violate the rules of this board.

There’s a big difference between disagreeing in good faith and arguing for sport. One moves everyone forward; the other just consumes time and energy. I genuinely don’t understand why anyone responds to Uzi—his goal doesn’t appear to be understanding, but validation. Maybe people could stop feeding this idiot…he clearly isn’t interested in facts, nuance, or solutions. Not every opinion needs or deserves endless engagement.
