I like it. Thanks.
By me! Suggested by ME! Everybody, I suggested it!
Oh the irony!
Haha, nicely done.
(What is the sound of one hand clapping for itself?)
This is a situation up with which I will not put!
I was still in elementary school (which went through 8th grade) in 1965, but I can report that bitchin’ (which is surfer slang, BTW) was still going strong for years after that. My mom was shocked by it in my junior high yearbook signings.
“Bitchin” here in Chicago in at least the early 90s among my cohort was pretty popular, as well.
That’s about 30 years later than here!
Can we save the word history lessons (or whatever the “word” is for that field of study) for MPSIMS? This is the fucking pit, the forum where you can say fucking a lot.
That would be “etymology” (not to be confused with entomology)
Every time people confuse the two it really bugs me.
Bitchin!!! Still used in the surfing community…
Sorry, but I need to use this thread for its intended purpose for a bit.
Dinsdale–read the room, dude. Discussion of a racial slur is not the place to be flippant and cracking jokes about how people are too sensitive. And when someone explains to you that the term was used against them, you don’t make light of it.
Sure, it’s fine to ask if people know what the term means, or just how offensive it is. But when literally everyone else is taking it seriously, joking around about how insignificant it is is going to make you look like a jerk.
It didn’t need to get the point where a mod had to step in, and honestly, I think you’re lucky it wasn’t a full on Warning.
Wicked cool! I thought we should honor both coasts.
It should have been.
Holy crap, that was easily the shittiest thing he’s ever posted, and that’s saying a lot.
Isn’t there a pit thread on him somewhere?
Since we have a clean thread title, might we have a link to the offending Dinsdale Post? If not, just the thread name and/or broken link would be nice.
You have to read Mr Dibble’s post that he’s responding to.
Well, that was sickly smug. And he quite literally (Snicker) ASKED for it.
That went past flippant and most likely into jerkish IMHO, absolutely worthy of this thread’s intended purpose.
Eh, it’s Dinsdale, he’s always been troll-ish.
That whole thread is ridiculous to me, anyway. All the “I’ve never even heard the word before”, as if that fucking mattered in the slightest to whether it’s a slur.
