This report he says he’ll release makes me think of the 1776 Report his administration produced shortly before he left office. The report was supposed to present a history of the US more in keeping with the country’s “core principals,” as opposed to previous efforts which he claimed were tarnished with liberal/progressive falsehoods.
The report was excoriated by historians. I read through it and it was mostly vacuous. You can read about the report here:
He’s like Bullwinkle saying “This time for sure!”, and it won’t be any different than all the previous attempts. We’ll see infrastructure week before we see this.
It occurred to me last night that perhaps this will be another in his money-making schemes, like the bibles. “I have all the unrefruited information here in my book that you can have for only $49.95. For another $20, I’ll throw in a MAGA hat.”
But as I said above, he can’t ‘look ahead’, because that way lies prison. He has to retroactively win the 2020 election, or he’s fucked.
At this point, what happens in 2024 has very little to do with the real issues facing the US voters. It will all come down to the juries in his various trials. That’s not a great situation, but it’s the one the US has found itself in.
It seems we’re going straight from “Imma gonna show you something amazing” to “Wasn’t that the most amazing report you ever heard?” and skipping the actual showing of the report. In a month, the MAGAts will be fondly remembering how Trump devastated everyone with his incredible refutation.
“See, this is part of the eeevul Dem witch hunt - to keep me focused on the past with these hoax indictments relating to the 2020 election, which I won, of course. They don’t want me to be able to talk about my plans for saving our country!*”
“*Please donate to my legal defense fund so I can unveil my plan for America, in two weeks time!”
If Trump’s lawyers have their way, there will be no press conference and no REPORT. I’m curious whether he’ll find some excuse to cancel or, as he did with his thousands of other lies, just pretend he never said anything and let the whole thing quietly fade away. Or he might just be stupid enough to go ahead anyway.
I think any lawyers left still working for Trump really ought to put forth an ultimatum: they’ll fire him as a client if he goes through with presenting this report, in whatever form or content. And follow through on it. Anything else is just a complete lack of self-respect.
Besides, they’re probably close to the end of their cash retainer, and good luck getting any more from the guy. If they went to work on a handshake, they should look up the phrase “sunk cost”.
His lawyers are of course, completely right that this idea of Trump’s is ludicrous. At least from the point of view of the law (maybe not from the point of view of “riling up the goobers” or “grifting the rubes”)
Likely, all this “report” (which is apparently being written by Liz Harrington, a Trump communications aide) will simply contain the same old debunked garbage conspiracy theories, and other crap that has already been tossed out of court. All this report is going to do from a legal standpoint is confirm that all of the charges against Trump are valid.
That’s it. He’s basically going to present a confession. At a press conference.
Really, if he goes through with this, his lawyers would indeed be well advised to walk.
