I said back in Spring 2016 when DT effectively clinched the GOP Nomination, my Democratic Party has made blowing it into an art form so we can never rule it out.
How hard is it to get 1/2 of the Cabinet onboard with invoking the Twenty-Fifth and deposing Trump? Is that not far easier than getting 2/3 of the Senate?
If they found him standing over a corpse with blood on his hands the GOP in congress would offer to get him a wet wipe.
Unless he gets tired of it a steps down he’ll be there until he is kicked out by the voters.
It’s time for a bump 5.5 months later. Anyone else want to place a bet?
He’ll get the full 8 years, unfortunately.
This. The people who are supposed to be responsible for making sure this doesn’t happen have utterly abdicated their responsibilities and consciences. There are no checks and balances left that have not been corrupted.
There’s already a pool going here. I am down for June 1, 2018 but won’t vote here due to a personal policy of never voting in public polls.
Well the entire Cabinet was hand picked by Trump, and except for VP Pence they all serve at his pleasure. Assuming they did invoke the 25th amendment while Trump had the mental capacity to object it would go to Congress; which have 21 days to make a final determination by a 2/3rds majority in both houses. Impeachment only takes a majority in the House. Also even if Congress sides with the Cabinet under over invoking the 25th Trump would still remain on office on paper (albeit with less power than the Emperor of Japan); Pence would only be Acting President.
What’s clear is that the job of POTUS is pretty much nothing like he thought it would be (where he would tell everyone what to do and they would hop to it, no questions), and he will continue to grow more unhappy and frustrated with the role. And as a long-time media hound, he’s finally learning that there’s such a thing as too much media attention.
I see him portraying himself as a martyr who tried to save us but, darn it, we just wouldn’t listen, so he resigns to leave us to our fate; the ongoing investigations/pending prosecution will have nothing to do with it.
He is going to give himself a “stroke” during the mid-term elections and “retire” due to medical conditions soon afterward.
I have a problem with the SDMB. There aren’t enough  s.
