Just because the polls show a close election is no reason to believe it will necessarily drag on for many days. Counting the ballots takes the same amount of time whether the margin is 51-49 or 90-10. Sure, Trump will challenge every loss, but that did him no good in 2020.
I think there’s a good chance that Harris will be declared the projected winner by late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, with a subhead noting Trump’s whining about “election fraud”.
The only way it could drag on for a long time is if too many states require recounts. I doubt that will happen.
Harris Wins Decisively, 325-213 in Electoral College, Captures 52.7% of Popular Vote
WASHINGTON DC - Vice President Kamala Harris emerged victorious in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, securing a decisive 325-213 win in the Electoral College and capturing 52.7% of the popular vote. Harris swept all of the battleground swing states, including Iowa, to become the first woman president in the history of the United States.
The vote-counting is not final yet as absentee ballots and mail-in ballots continue to be processed; however, they are only expected to add to Harris’ lead, not cut into it. Trump supporters have been calling for recounts and filing complaints of electoral fraud, but without basis.
Political analysts credit Harris’s win to her ability to galvanize key demographics, including young voters, women, and minority communities. Her platform prioritized economic recovery from the pandemic’s effects, investments in renewable energy, and reforms in education and healthcare. In particular, Harris was able to heavily outspend Trump and get more women to vote early than ever before.
Harris wins decisively. Pollsters admit they were just shitting us all along- they knew all along she was going to win but had to keep up the pretense of a close rate so they could get paid to do more polls.
I’m not sure this logic applies. ISTR plenty of times when election coverage said something like, “With 22% of the votes in, ABS News is projecting that Rufus T. Firefly has won the State of Freedonia.”
Those kinds of projections are a lot easier to do when Firefly has 60% of the votes counted so far than when he has 51%.
For sure. I was assuming that it doesn’t take multiple days to count all the votes, or at least enough votes to make projections. If things are so close that every last ballot has to be counted, then yes, it definitely could take some time. I don’t think that will be the case Tuesday night, though the tension may well extend through to Wednesday…
