Bumping this thread: Each day, it seems less likely to happen, and MORE likely to happen, at the same time and for different reasons. MHO, of course.
Meh…we as a country survived it before, we’ll survive it again.
A number of individuals didn’t survive the last round, and very likely more won’t survive the next if there is one.
You may feel confident that neither your nor anyone you care about will be among them, and you may therefore be unconcerned about it. It’s possible you’re wrong about that. Even if you’re right: I am not so confident.
Not sure if you mean the Civil War ver. 1.
A few didn’t survive the last time he lost though.
Are we to pretend that the country is no more up shit creek than it was the last time he became President?
He was a horrible president and Biden hasn’t been much better. But the overly dramatic hyperbole is a bit much.
No. I meant the excess people who died of covid; the ones who died due to refusal of justified immigration; the ones who died of attacks on various groups due indirectly to Trump’s encouragement of hatred and of hate. groups.
What hyperbole? Is the country in the same position it was the first time Trump became President, yes or no?
This.
And I think that one of the mitigators of the damage done on Jan 6th and other attempts was the stupidity and incompetence of the various perpetrators. They clearly had no concept of operational security and made no effort to hide themselves. Next time, if they’ve learned anything, it could get far worse and such crimes such as kidnapping of state governors or congressman and women could be successful. Things could get far nastier.
Biden is light years ahead of Trump. Anyone would be. Literally, anyone.
I can’t believe it’s necessary to point this out after all we’ve learned. Trump is an incompetent, immoral, criminal who abuses women, and cozies up to foreign dictators.
I suppose I’m somewhat confident that the country will survive Trump, but if 50% or more of our voters think that’s the way to go, we’re doomed in the long run.
ETA:: upon reflection, I’m not confident. Perhaps hopeful is a better word for it.
The repealing of rights laws around the country is a direct result of Trump’s “you can be successful if you openly fuck over everyone else” message. If Trump wins this will get worse.
Or as Jeff Tiedrich calls him:
I am somewhat hopeful that the country would survive, in recognizable form, both a second Trump term and the people who favor him.
But I’m not confident about it at all. And I hope we don’t find out.
This is such a critical point. I generally believe that most politicians are smart and well-motivated. But in the case of Trump, I could have actually done a much better job during the pandemic, simply by doing nothing and letting the doctors, scientists and other experts speak.
Trump actively sabotaged the whole effort.
So you are a person that holds the POTUS accountable for every single thing that happens in the country during their term.
Well then, let’s put Biden in charge of international pandemics and Trump in charge of the stock market.
No, I’m just a person looking for a straight answer to a very simple question.
As an “anyone but Trump” employee under the Department of Commerce, hope I still have a job in June.
In this instance, during his term, he essentially was responsible for most things that happened because the GOP was so beholden to him that simply let him do whatever he wanted and would support it.
In the entire country?
Through his setting the stage for total lack of civility in the public realm; encouragement of pseudo- (or even anti-) science; repeated failure to accept an election defeat; BS anti-media bloviating; and serving as an appalling and toxic example to his vile followers plus the desperate and ignorant; which poisoned public discourse and encouraged racist policing; yes.
