What would you rather drive a new car or a pimped car?

A brand new car that costs 20 grand or less or a car that was atleast 10 years old that has been “pimped out” just like on MTV with over 20 grand worth of improvements?

I personally will go with the pimped out ride because you would still have a nice interior and shiny exterior but it would probably cost less in insurance because it was older and then also it would be unique. Alot of people drive Saturns or whatever but how many people drive around in something like an 85 Volvo that looks “new” inside and out that has wide rimmed tires and monitors built into the headrest. I will go with a pimped out 10-20 year old car any day over a new one.

Is an old, unpimped car an option?

Sure, but why? :dubious:

An old unpimped car doesn’t sound very appealing to me.

Because if you gave me a pimped car, I’d just have to spend a lot of money scraping all that crap off.

I’ve got a shitbox car, and for the most part like it. I don’t need to worry about it being stolen, dents and scratches just add to what it’s already got, and I don’t need to worry about first party insurance because it’s so cheap I can just buy a new one if it gets too damaged.

Actually, I believe the term “pimp” is considered offensive now: they prefer to be called “carnal entrepreneurs”.

Because a lot of the “pimp” options are illegal in some areas, I believe-driving distraction.

That and it’s a total waste of money. I consider a car as something to get me from point A to point B. It should be safe, reasonably comfortable, reliable, and affordable. Other than that, I don’t give a shit.

Besides, what you save in insurance you’d spend in “pimping” it out. Damn, those cars are fugly.

The thing is, I don’t mind a nice-looking car. For a car to be nice, though, it has to be either new or new-looking; the only condition a vehicle should be is “mint”. the only personal touch I need is in the paint job.

This is START’s preference, I don’t see what the problem is.

In my definition of “pimped”, it means customized for comfort and uniqueness rather then for performance. In that case, I’d rather drive a stock new car. If the current use of pimped means “hot rodded” too, give me a pimped out '91 Honda Civic (more Racer then Ricer) or a '49 GMC Suburban

Peace - DESK

Xzibit’s crew got in trouble for REMOVING THE AIR BAG in one car to put in a TV screen.

Seeing as how I’d don’t care for “pimped-out” cars and that I’d look silly behind the wheel of one, I’ll take the new car.

I think it would be fun to have an old restored car. As long as it wasn’t ‘pimped’ out. Oh, maybe a little work on it would be ok. Say a blueprinted 350 in an old Nova with a 4 speed. Or a Charger, or Road Runner with a 426 Hemi. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

“HONEY? We need to talk”

:Snerk:

Nah. No room in my life for something like that. Not that I don’t appreciate them.

If someone would offer me $30,000 for any car I wan’t, I would still go for a new one.

If the car would be “pimped” to my tastes, rather than some punk MTV producer or bizarre west coast idea, I’d go for the older pimped car. New cars are nice, comfortable, reliable and well, boring. Especially at the $20K limit. Hold off on the ridiculous stuff like TVs everywhere and fish tanks in the back seat, spend the money on a new suspension and disc brakes, and a cool interior and paint job, maybe some mild engine mods for a little extra performance. I like the individuality and uniqueness of a one-off design. Mostly cause I’ve only driven boring common cars and wouldn’t mind something with some flair. Maybe an old truck, or an old Volvo…

If I can control the pimping, I would go for the pimped out - I want a fully restored 1974 matra simca bagheera, or 1974 TVR vixen or if it has to be american, 1970 ford mustang mach 1.

If it has to be new, then I want a VW jetta, 6 cyl preferred, with the new mp3 player vice CD player.

Diamond in the back with a gangsta lean …?
No.

We should all be thankful for what we’ve got.

If you were to ask if I would customize a car vs buying new then the answer is yes. I’m doing that right now. Can’t say I like the pimped out look because it comes across as a show of bling and that rubs me the wrong way. I also don’t like the look in general but then I’m older so my taste in cars is going to be different.

The reason I was willing to spend the money on an older car is because I couldn’t afford the performance I wanted in a new car. Modifying an older car is really the only option. I have to admit that a new Mustang GT was an awful temptation and the Crossfire is growing on me.

I would question that what MTV does to a car constitutes “improvements”

My preference is the way Overhaulin’
does it.

I’m with DaddyTimesTwo and aruvqan; I’d take the pimped car if I get to choose how it’s pimped. The traditional pimped car looks ridiculously ostentatious IMO, and some of the stuff you see on Pimp My Ride is just silly (fish tanks?). I’d take something sporty (like maybe a Pontiac Trans Am) and give it a new paint job, new interior, killer sound system, and some modest engine enhancements.

If I don’t get to choose how the car is pimped, then I’ll take a good modern car over some “ghettoized” monstrosity any day.
