Whatcha Drivin' ?

The Elkwoman and I share a 1992 Pontiac Lemans 2dr hatch in the winter (named Lemondrop). Don’t be fooled, its a Daewoo in disguise, as I found out when I replaced the heater motor (went on Boxing Day, no less). Really basic, with as 4 spd and no options. Goes forever on a tank of gas, though. The mighty Elkman will travel in style this summer, though. I’m almost (paint to go) done restoring a 1977 Triumph TR7. The ultimate expression of the wedge shape. It’s getting redone in its original bright yellow color, and I’m keeping the original green and black tartan interior, including the green carpet that looks like it came out of my parents’ rec. room. It has a sunroof, to boot. Now if I can just find a groovy disco suit to complete the picture…

1995 Chevy Impala SS
260 hp 5.7L V8

She’s whupped on quite a few rice rockets.

8D

Apparently an 8 and a D do not make a smiley with a shit eating grin. I will try harder next time.

1991 Toyota MR2 2.2l NA

The Diggler - 1984 white Ford Ecoline Van. It’s not insulated so in the winter you can rent it out to store meat.

Hahaha, I spent almost a year searching for a supercharged '2 after someone managed to hit my 1986 NA. For a car sold in relatively large numbers, they very rarely make the classifieds. I love everything about the car except the handling. Unless you’ve got $7000 with my name on it, you’ll have to make do with 112hp and a bad interior.

A beautiful, if somewhat boxy, Oldsmobile - make is 88, year is '89. It’s dark red. Purrs like a kitten unless it’s chilly out, in which case I just play some Barry White and she warms right up.

I call her Sophia - she’s my Golden Girl. Sometimes I call her The Beast, because she’s sort of a boat. I’ve got a hula girl, Bonqueefa the Hula Bitch, in the back rearview.

I didn’t know what love is until I cried and bled thousands of dollar bills to buy her. I thought a car was just a means to an end; little did I know that once I was behind her wheel, I could never be behind any other. I think this must be how mothers feel for their little girls. Tomorrow she’s going to get an oil change. Nothing but the best for my baby - my ticket to freedom.

sigh I love my first car. I only owe $300 on her, too.

Hey, Spiny, I want a ride! Do you by any chance live in the Seattle area?

Me:

2000 Toyota Celica GTS
Black, black, and black, with some leather thrown in
6-speed
180 HP
130 lb.-ft. @ 6,800 rpm torque

And not one speeding ticket yet! Well, okay, I haven’t taken it over 95 mph either…

I don’t have photos posted yet (:o), but you can see the pretty professional ones at http://www.toyota.com/html/shop/vehicles/celica/index.html. A high-speed connection and Flash are recommended.

85 Feetwood Brougham d’Elegance. Loaded and in good shape, and close to being a classic. Blue too.

Long road trips were becoming an annoyance rather than a pleasure, so I went looking for the most comfortable recliner on wheels I could find. What can I say – I’m a convert. Driver fatigue? Not any more. It’s not just marketing – there really is a difference in the Cadillac ride.

Me - 1990 Mazda B2200 pickup, w/ 147k mi.
Burns oil like a bandit, but still runs.

Mrs. B. - 1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport w/ 120k mi.
Great car.

We love the Jeep, but we’re probably going to sell it this year in favor of better gas mileage.

Mrs. B. says the new car will be mine, (I drive way more than she does), and she’ll take the pickup for what little she drives.
I have my doubts about that, but we’ll see.

I’ll trade you my left leg for that car. And $300.

I’ll give you $300 plus my left leg.

Yeah, that makes more sense.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo - Patriot Blue

2000 Camaro SS, black w/black leather interior, 350 engine w/6-speed manual transmission on a Hurst short-throw shifter. This baby will change gears at the speed of light.

Nicknamed “The Phantom” 'cause you don’t see her till she’s already gone.

for the time being i drive a '91 pontiac grand am, but when i get out of college and finally get done restoring my baby i’ll be driving a 1968 Ford Mustang

1998 New Beetle. Yellow.

And yes, I love it.

My main vehicle is a '91 Cherokee (old reliable, never has given me a problem in 7 years). For a trail ride I have just aquired an '81 CJ-8 (Scrambler) pictures in the members section and for work purposes I have an '85 half ton long wheel base chevy pick up. Mainly I like Jeeps though. I also am working on a busted up CJ-5 that will be completly illegal and fit only for off-road use once I am finished.

BTW Gunslinger. Sweet Jeep. I am working on getting a Grand Wagoneer 4x4 for a family vehicle.

'66 Mustang coupe - springtime yellow, rebuilt 289,
original pony interior in fair shape (black)
original spinner hubcaps

Gunmetal '87 Olds Calais… You guys have inspired me to name her…Hmmmmmmmm… any suggestions?

1993 Ford Thunderbird LX v6, 150,000 miles

It ain’t that fast (weighs a lot, 140hp), it’s scary in wet weather (215 ft-lbs@2200 RPM = spinning rear tires), you need at least 2-3 lanes to even attempt U-turns, and the nose is so long and steering geometry so weird that parking usually takes 2, sometimes 3, passes. Since it’s got one of those Ford 232cid v6 engines with MPFI, it’s not that fuel-efficient, either. In many ways, it’s like a v6 version of Ford’s old Mustang 5.0–torquey, noisy, with a low redline and a tendency to slurp gas.

But…

It is sooo comfortable for highway driving, and actually has decent acceleration for highway passing. Quiet for normal highway driving, usually-70mph=1950 RPM. The engine also sounds fairly impressive once it gets past about 3000 RPM, which is about what the passing band is at 70-80 mph. It’s also noteworthy that it will hit 40mph in 1st gear and almost 70 in second, forcing the transmission to pull near-redline shifts (it gets really loud about then).

No body rot, minimal rust on underside, runs well.

Love that thing, but wish I had either the v6 with a blower (SC) or one of the v8s.
