What'd you like on your hot dog?

Mustard, relish, kraut and sometimes onions if I’m not planning on sex with The Caddy that night.

Reeder, another thanks for the recipe. I’ll try it this week.

That actually sounds really good.

Sausages cut into beans are good, beans on bread are good…This is just skipping the cutting.

Ketchup, mustard, onions and cheese. Yummy!

Oh…one occured to me that I forgot…

Ketchup and bacon.

Strange? Weiners and beans was a staple when I was a kid. (The name “beanie weenies” came from someplace else.) We always had it with white bread on the side, but usually not in the shape of a bun.

Around Vancouver there’s a chain of hot-dog carts called “Mr. Tube Steak” that sells hot dogs and smokies. They carry a smokie with jalapenos and cheese built in, which are wonderful with onions and lots of sauerkraut, and nothing else.

On preview I see Tengu beat me to the bean-dog, but I don’t care. So there! (The bacon one sounds really good, though!)

Ketchup and a pickle spear on a poppyseed bun. Let the pickle warm, then eat it with the hot ketchup on it. Take the hot dog out, wipe most of the ketchup off on the bun, then eat it. Finally, eat the warm, meat juice and ketchup soaked bun. Preferably, the meal should come from Beef Villa in Elgin, Illinois. The one on Larkin, or the one on the east side; not the one in South Elgin.

…so I’m picky. And?

Onions, chili, cheese, and ketchup

I’m pretty boring:

Yellow Mustard
Relish
Chopped Onions

Never, ever do I put catsup on a hotdog. That’s just wrong.

Every once in a while, I do spicy mustard and sauerkraut. I prefer those condiments more for spicier varieties of sausage than your standard weiner, but I’ll put 'em on hotdogs occasionally.

A Fenway Frank, in the park, with the mustard, relish, and onion combo is simply heavenly, IMO.

You’re right. I just never thought of putting baked beans on a hot dog with a bun, but it does seem very natural when I think about it.

Ha ha! Well, ahem, sounds like an arousing good hot dog.

And another thank you for the recipe Reeder. Sounds like good summer eats.

It is. You can also add cheese, but I don’t like them with cheese. (AKA, a Whistle Dog, although that’s a trademark of A&W, as my former boss (AKA, Satan) used to bitch about, endlessly.)

I’m probably gonna get flamed for this, but:

Ketchup. That’s it.

I HATE mustard, relish, and saurerkraut. Onions need to be cooked for me to like them on a dog, and most places they aren’t.

God this stuff isn’t getting to me - the shootings, the knifings, the beatings. Old ladies being bashed in the head for their social security checks. Nah that doesn’t bother me. But you know what does bother me? You know what makes me really sick to my stomach? It’s watching you stuff your face with those hotdogs! Nobody - I mean nobody puts ketchup on a hot dog!" --Harry Callahan in Sudden Impact

I think of a hot dog as a condiment carrying device. My ideal hot dog has chili, bacon, cheese, onions, and mustard.

Yes, it is difficult to eat. Best fixed at home and eaten in privacy, with a roll of paper towels.

Saurkraut, mustard and onions…

There’s this one place downtown that sells these long hot dogs (or brats) in a hollowed out half loaf of french bread. Seriously, you see people walking around gnawing on what looks like a loaf of bread but it’s got a hot dog, your kraut, mustard and onions all in there (I don’t even think they carry ketchup).

The Buddist likes a lot of condiments.

In fact he tells the vendor to “Make me one with everything”.

I just had to do that

At the minimum, mustard and relish. Better with onions, better with a slice cut down the weiner with strips of cheese in it. No ketchup - that goes with the fries.

If you’re coming to Tallahassee, I’ll take you to Dawg Et. Al. - they have great hot dogs, on which you can have anything you like.

“Do you have a favorite joint with odd toppings?”

No.

“How do you like on your dog?”

Chili, catsup/mustard, onions.

“If I was visiting your town, where would you take me for a great dog?”

I don’t know. We have a few hot dog stands in Knoxville, but I’ve never gone to them as my wife prefers a certain level of ambiance when we dine (i.e., she wants somebody to serve her, not to stand in line taking orders). However, I did have a very nice footlong chili/onion dog at Kingston Alley one Christmas night (with my wife and newborn daughter), but they discontinued this lunch item and the place hasn’t been the same for me since.

I like me dogs naked naked naked!!

Just mustard. Occaisonally chili.

By the way, “Mr. Tube Steak” was my nickname in high school.

From Mr. Tube Steak to Tentacle Monster. My, how you must have grown.

I didn’t mention, at home I like to wrap up those Oscar Mayer cheese dogs in plain white bread and nuke them for a minute or so. Sometimes with mustard, sometimes with relish, sometimes just plain. Delicious!
