Okay. I’m in the game industry myself. I understand how games get cancelled- hell, I’m currently in crunch on my fourth game right now- and if I’m lucky, it’ll actually get released…
But still- Team Fortress took the gaming world by storm. It completely redefined online gaming. The screenshots which were released three or four YEARS ago, of TF2, looked really damn cool. Remember the movie they released of the game play? sigh
Granted, if it DID come out now, it’d look dated.
Anyway, I haven’t heard ANYTHING about this game for over a year now… has anyone else?
Yeah, it’s been pushed back a hundred times, but I don’t expect anything less from a quality game company nowadays (Just look at Blizzard). There have been significant updates and you might be able to find a few at:

IIRC, it was supposed to be released a year or more ago. It was originally designed with a modified Half-Life engine (which is essentially a modified Quake 2 engine). With Unreal Tournament, Quake 3, and a number of other games out there with vastly more sophisticated graphics engines, Valve decided to redo the game with their own proprietary engine to better compete.
So it’s been in development for a long time now. Right now, it looks pretty much complete and everything looks very good. I wasn’t blown away by the graphics but they look very clean. Valve has been showcasing and perfecting a bunch of TF2 features in their patches (one of which is coming out tomorrow). In fact, tomorrow’s patch will have a bunch of key TF2 features. This includes Spectator Multicast and integrated voice communication. So there you have it, TF2 has not been shelved and might actually come out early next year.
