Okay okay okay! Step right up and empty your medicine cabinet right here for everyone to see. Tell us what you take (be it every day, every once in a while, or once a year) and what you take it for.
Maybe we can answer some questions for each other regarding our prescriptions.
I’ll tell you right now…these are all for Two Herniated Discs in the back…I’m not allowed to take ibuprofen anymore…so it’s hard drugs for me.
Celebrex: Anti-inflammatory…glorified advil…does absolutely NOTHING for me, although the doctor insists that it does.
Amitryptiline: Anti-Depressant? This is a mystery to me. My doctor says that if I’m on anti-depressants my mood will be elevated and I’ll have a high pain threshold and won’t even notice that my back hurts…a sort of happy cyborg effect. Has anyone else been prescribed an anti-depressant for this reason?
Cyclobenziprene (sp?): I don’t know what this fucker does, but I can see how it could be addictive. It makes me sleepy and tingly and numb and I don’t even know that i have a BACK, much less back PAIN.
I’ve also had Vicodin (which I voluntarily cut myself off from), Etadolac and Tylenol Codeine.
Nothing for me now except the occassional ibuprofen or sudafed.
But I was on Vicodin after I had surgery on my wrist a couple years ago and whoaaaa baby. I can see why Brett Favre and Matthew Perry got hooked on the stuff. I was only taking two of 'em a day for a couple weeks and when my prescription ran out, I went through a mini-withdrawal. I caouldn’t fall asleep, I was agitated, jittery, the whole works.
I agree Bottle. You know I hate Brett more than life itself, but for a brief few days I clearly understood his position on Vicodin and I felt we were in the same boat.
Luckily, I’m not a quickly fading, whining, brittle quarterback…
Here is my list:[ul]
[li]One or two (or three) glasses of single malt scotch, taken once a week to ease the pains of the day.[/li]
[li]One or two (or three) hits from the magic hookah taken as needed to ease the, you guessed it, pains of the day.[/li]
[li]One fine cigar, smoked in the company of Arab men, once a week to remind me that I am not a man’s man.[/li][/ul]
That’s it for me.
Oh, and if I can get my hands on any of that Vicodin or Percodan, I am a happy camper
For muscle spasms in my lower back, some sort of relaxant - cyclobenzeultrasupermargarinemegaprine or something, and naproxen, which is like Aleve 5 times over. I’ve never had to take any sort of muscle relaxant before, and it makes me loopy and drowsy. I’m all clumsy in the morning - I dropped two coffee cups and a bowl the other day. I hate it, I wish it would just fix my stupid back so I could get back to my usual misery. Other than that, nada…except for the occasional Metabolife when I can remember to take it.
I feel your pain, jarbabyj. I have two herniated discs and I take (very sparingly) Relafen and/or Naprosyn as a muscle relaxant. My doc says he will give me pain meds when I lose 50 lbs. and if I still have back pain…feh
I’m also finishing up some Augmentin for a sinus thing I couldn’t shake.
In general, I don’t take meds…I just don’t like to and if I am, it means I am in really really bad shape.
You 'mercans sure know your drugs! I’m seriously impressed.
Only thing in my cabinet is aspirin, to be taken after any significant quantity of Merlot or Cabernet. [sub]Those headaches are killers…[/sub]
Sorry not to be more interesting, but I’ve gotten into this (bad?) habit of reading any thread that jarbabyj starts (on the basis that it could go anywhere, and frequently does [sub] and boy does she start a lot of threads! [sub] in a good way, of course[/sub][/sub] and felt I had to contribute something albeit not much. Ah well. My 2 cents, as you delightful guys say. [sub]you also say ‘feh’ quite a lot. Never quite got that. How’s it sound?[/sub]
Alleve. Lots of Alleve.
Tylenol Sinus and Cold, adult and kids varieties.
Tylenol for kids.
Vicks 44D
Nyquil
Demerol and Valium for migrains.
Adderall for Jr. Ranger II
Phentermine
I’m also no stranger to the Magic Hooka when my back is acting up and Alleve just doesn’t cut it.
I only take one thing every day: Motilium (domperidone) for IBS.
Unfortunately, this med is not available in the States so I have to order it through a company in Ontario that ships meds to the US. The good part is that my doctor is Canadian (in AZ no less) and has his Ontario license so I don’t have to pay extra to get my script underwritten.
I keep Sudafed around for when I have a cold, Advil for the odd headache that I can’t suffer through. Oh, and Benedryl for those rare times I can’t fall asleep.
Hey Falcon, another Synthroid user here (112mcg). I also use Sudafed, two different steriod nasal sprays, Flonase and Nasecort, Benedryl (yes, I do have chronic sinus problems), Tylenol (can’t take ibuprofen or naproxen while pregnant), Tums, for the pregnancy heartburn, and a prenatal vitamin. Also on our shelf is Zantac, Immodium and Pepto, for the man of the house with chronic stomach problems.
I can honestly say I’m currently drug free, and in fact the only time I have ever had things other than simple pills like iron supplements or paracetamol is when I’ve been in hospital and had to take a painkiller, Voltaren.
-Claritin for allergies
-Rhinocort nasal inhaler for allergies and eustachian tube issue
-800 mg Ibuprofen 3x daily for knee…don’t ask
-keg of homebrew British Pale Ale in basement fridge for attitude adjustment
-Valerian Root …probably placebo effect, but for occasional sleep problems
-one crazy beagle: to put everything else in perspective
Avalide for high blood pressure.
Nasonex for pollen allergies; this climate is a killer for pollen in spring and summer. sniff
Heartguard chewables–heart worm preventative for the woofer.
Miscellaneous wines, usually red; merlot and zin preferred for mellowing out.
A bottle of homemade limoncello in the basement freezer–good vodka infused with lemon; great over ice, straight or with a slug of tonic, ahem taken to combat summer heat. Besides, I’m sure it’s loaded with vitamin C.
Working where I do (chain pharmacy) drugs scare me. If I had a limb amputated, I’d be such a wuss that I’d say “Nah, I don’t need anything. Just give me some ice.”
But to answer your question, I take Ortho-TriCyclen for PCOS, and this winter I took Amoxicillin (my first prescription other than birth control!!) for my first-ever case of strep.
