What's a 99er?

Since I was never taught a secret handshake, code word, or had Cecil personally welcome me, I never thought that joining in 1999 = 99er. Or is it? Am I a 99er? Am I … special?! (If so, when should I expect my short-bus pass?)

Yes, it just means someone who joined in the first calendar year that this board was operational, that is, 1999. You are one.

How “special” that makes you only you can decide.

You also have to have .52 posts per day or more.

Extremely special.

Look at me! I’m so fancy!

VERY special.

Your 99’er status and $1.50 should get you a cup of coffee at Denny’s.

Wow… special. I’ve never had a thread make it to Threadspotting, never found a Weird Earl, never started an “in” joke … but now I’m special. Thanks!!!

Now all I gotta do is get my post count up, and I’m off to Dennys!

According to my calculations, there are 3,874 people who can claim '99er status although most of them are no longer active.

The last of the '99ers is SellingFireInsurance who made all of 9 posts in his career and hasn’t had any activity since April of 2000.

That would make Oaeneo the first member who wasn’t a '99er. He never made a post. His last activity was also in April of 2000.

You think somebody took them out?

I must really be bored today.

The last '99 who is still active is doreen, a Charter Member who registered on 12/30/99 and has posted nearly 2000 times.

The first non-'99er still active is Charter Member toadspittle who registered on 01/03/00 and has over 4.5k posts.

Time to go home.

Hmmm… then I guess 99er status depends on time zone. Because to me, the last 99er is member 3853, Drew Weing. Consider this question: does this member appear to have a join date in 1999 to you? And when you check their posts (for example, this one), what is the join date on the post?

Yes, I guess I enjoy wasting time as much as you.

Nah. My man **SellingFireInsurance **is Member 3874 and registered the day after Drew Weing

How are you gathering stats? Are you actually putting in ?userid=trial and error until you get what you’re looking for?

whew!

Substituting “Are you” for “Is your script” is surprisingly easy

What I’m saying is, what is the join date of SellingFireInsurance according to you? According to me it is Jan 1 2000, but I understand you see it as Dec 31 1999 on your end.

Yes, but members are in chronological order of join date anyway, so it isn’t so hard to find who joined on which day.

I’m sure it’s easy to do as alterego suggests and automate the process, but I’ve never done it.

Oh. Gotcha. I see him as 12/31/99. Interesting.

I just changed my time setting in the options page of the User Control Panel and that affects the join dates. So, to know who the last “true” '99er was, you’d have to know who was the last person to join in 1999 in their time zone, unless you want to accept an arbitrary cutoff like midnite, CST.
