I go to New York a few times a year to visit relatives. I used to check the Village Voice and Time Out to see what was going on that week as far as concerts, etc. But both of those have gone under in the last few years. How do New Yorkers find out what’s going on around town these days?
You know you walked right into this, right? If you’re looking for the best places to go around New York, there’s really only one guide.
What kinds of events, concerts, etc. are you interested in? There are a ton of different guides, each of which has a somewhat different focus. Here are some places to start your search for things to do:
-
Major events often appear in NYC: The Official Guide.

Time Out New York is still going strong. Who told you it went under?

Each borough has an official website with event listings. A quick Google search will bring them up. (A lot of visitors to New York go only to Manhattan, from 110th street down, and maybe a few of the most expensive parts of Brooklyn. I think that’s a shame. There are a lot of awesome things in the rest of NYC.)

You might already know this, but in case you don’t–every club, concert venue, cultural institution, etc. has its own website, with listings for upcoming events.
