"What's a normal sleep cycle?" Don't ask the MMP!

Howdy Y’all! Went to the doc and just as I suspected, I am still alive. I went to the Pubic Sto’ to lay in some provisions as well. I did all that and was home by eleven this mornin’. Go Me! Tomorrow I have an appointment with the gastroenterologist. Don’t really want to but doc insists so I shall. The appointment has been put off twice due to the plague, but tomorrow is a go. I did the online check in this afternoon. I did politely decline to take a picture of my insurance cards. They can see those in person. I did not like that idea, especially for my Medicare card. I’m old, grumpy, and suspicious. They can deal with that. Sup has been et and 'twas good. There are leftovers for tomorrow for either N.O.L. or sup whichever is decided.

Steak was a good choice. SIL has taken Roxy to meet with daughter and play at the playground near her school. So we’ve got the house to ourselves… with the critters, of course.

Doing not much is tiring! I want to veg the night away, so I shall!

on behalf of the fire alarm industry, I offer an apology. It does need to be done, but I certainly realize that it is unpleasant. After all, I listen to fire alarms all day every day (for the next 100 days…)

MetalMouse

Generally I sound the alarms once per building and let them ring for the few minutes it takes to verify that all of the audible devices are functioning correctly. Once I know they all work, I disconnect them and test the smoke detection and manual pull ststions silently.

But it is *MOM’s *meatloaf, you ninny!

-Carnivorousplant, sucking up n the SDMB since 2000.

peaches, you could do what my parents did when my dad had a brain fart and voted for Reagan in 1980: put a moratorium on talking politics for the duration.

{{{shady}}} I’m sorry about your aunt.

{{{Nellie}}} My sister would agree with you on the prednisone. Hope this flare up is brief and doesn’t leave any lasting damage.

Moooooooom, chilly willy sounds like a somewhat disappointing sexual problem. :stuck_out_tongue:

{{{doggie}}} I hope that Gordie starts sleeping later and the rest of your woes clear up.

swampy, I don’t know about you, but my PCP makes a scan of my insurance cards my first appointment of the year and just asks if there are any changes when I go in for the rest of the year.

Irked today. Found a glitch in the updated system that we’re slowly migrating to, so I didn’t send the accuracy metrics for that portion of the company (now that they’re aware of it, our IT team dedicated to the migration is working on it). I had to laugh though. While I’m comfortable in the update, the OB isn’t quite yet. The boss has assigned her to cover inventory that’s migrated (our biggest PITA market is in that group) while I cover the non-location counts in the old system. The decision was made to force her to upgrade her skills and not to cherry pick the easy stuff out. I’ll give her a hand if she’s behind and I have nothing shaking, but I have admin duties that she doesn’t and cover a lot of communications for the department, so she’s going to have to pick up the pace. The coordinator and I are making bets on when she puts in her retirement papers.

There was just a biiiiiiiig crash outside. Nelson just about hit the ceiling by jumping so high and barked his fool head off. I went outside and a big branch had fallen from the oak in front of the apartment next door. It did minimal damage (it looks like just the corner of a shingle, not even the gutters), but I took a pic and texted it to the maintenance guy who was riding herd on the roofers two buildings over. He moved it away and said he would have the roofers take a look tomorrow.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Well, that’s a stinkin’ relief!

Today at work was much better than yesterday, thank all the nonexistent gods, and now it’s incredibly cool. (Windy as hell, though). Tropical Storm Something-Or-Other sure has made the weather go all wonky lately, and there may be more tunderboomers tonight judging by the dark horizon.

Matter of fact, couple minutes ago we got a big “BOOM!” nearby, too. Made fat old Nikki turn into a whisp of smoke and disappear. Pretty sure a nearby transformer blew, as I still have power but Teh Googlez got disconnected from their router or something.

Ah! Now thoughts turn to dinner. Last time I roasted a potato* I thought ahead (pats self on back) and roasted a spare. It has been binge watching Netflix in the back of my fridge until I had a relaxed evening, and a not-hot house. That time is tonight. Dinner shall be … potato soup!

  • or as I like to call 'em, “Bacon and cheese delivery vehicles.” Rolls right off the tongue.

That very one. And lots and lots of his friends and relations.

In the ‘life happens’ department: Next door neighbor told us yesterday that one of our sprinklers was leaking badly and running downhill into their storage space. It was getting dark and we had planned to drive back to the ‘big house’ today, so I turned the sprinkler timer off back there with the idea that I would fix it when we got back, but this morning we decided to stay another day, so we walked down to the hardware store to get some parts to fix the sprinklers. On the way down there we passed by the tavern and were sucked inside 'cause they make really good burgers and we were hungry. As it turned out, they make darn good fish n chips and taco salad too.

Anyway, I had to dig up ~8’ of sprinkler pipe and reseal one joint and replace one sprinkler, which took a little while, and now the lawn is all wet again, so no mowage today. We may, or may not, drive over the hill tomorrow, or Friday. Or Saturday. Dunno.

Oh, we’ve been watching a series called Yellowstone on the Paramount Network. We get it free 'cause we’re on the Dish Network. It’s kinda like Dallas except with lots more sex and violence. It has good actors and really good writing, and one of the most evil women I’ve ever seen in a show, and she’s nominally one of the good guys.

Too warm today and the callers were irritating. Doesn’t help that I’m stressing out about general events and nuttiness. Bonus points for going to JitB for lunch and discovering as I was parking that I had forgotten my purse back at the office (5 min each way to retrieve). Good thing I have their app with payment info stored, so I just did an order from my phone but ate it at one of their tables. Both Walmarts I visited seemed pretty picked over (did score some “we made too much” chocolate cake donuts), and in one, the lines were so horrible I set my one item down at one of the many vacant registers and left.

Miniature emperor handled dinner tonight. DH craved Hawaiian pizza, which Walmart doesn’t carry.

Mornin’ all.

Wet 'n windy here today, but the main drama du jour is that the drain is completely clogged. I shall be heading out to get some drain cleaner, plus assorted other shopping, in a minute. I could call the landlord, but I don’t wanna, so I’ll try to sort it myself first.

On the plus side, because I haven’t been able to shower (got a tub/shower which is half full of drain yuck from last night’s unsuccessful plunging attempt) people should keep the 2 meter distance alright.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN I was a slug abed until seven o’ clock. ‘Tis 75 and mostly N.O.S. out (and hyooooooomid!) with a predicted high of 92 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. I am inclined toward doin’ a lot of nothin’ today. I do have the two forty-five appointment with the gastroenterologist (hard word to spell!) that I do not want to keep but will. Other than that, who knows. Leftover sketties ‘n meatballs shall be either N.O.L. or Sup. Maybe sup cause that might not be a good thing to eat before goin’ to see a gut doc.

Red my PCP does the same with my insurance each year. I just was not to keen on the idea of takin’ a picture and sendin’ it to the gastroenterology place so they can make a copy of 'em this afternoon.

Shoe I was quite relieved myself to lean I am still alive.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, onward into the day! I do have to face the dauntin’ task of purtifyin’ and donnin’ appropriate bein’ about the public attire. This will be two days in a row. QUELLE HORREUR!

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Another slug-a-bed. I woke around 4, but I slept on and off till a bit after 7, so I feel rather human already.

You’re a dirty, dirty girl!!!

We’re promised rain and t-boomers today, and it’s overcast already. I may actually dust today! For now, I’m finishing breakfast before deciding what to do.

Happy Thursday!!

Okay, so TONIGHT will be potato soup. Last night, I was just. too. tired. and after some post-work chillage decided to simply go to bed. I don’t think the sun was all the way down yet.

Worth it, too. Woke up gently a few minutes before my alarm, which I take as a sign that I got Enuff Sleep ™ and am now having a hot cuppa (because brr! it’s only 59 F :D) and a fluffernutter sandwich* for breakfast (cuz that’s just how I roll).

  • peanut butter and mini marshmallows

Shaddup. I made it on whole wheat bread, so it’s *healthy * dammit. Hmph!

Morning all. Up at 0630 and took the garbage can out. Have an appointment at 10-12 to get my TV looked at and then will mow the yard. Temperatures in the mid-80’sF for the day and not a chance of rain.

swampy, hope the medical things go well. And I’m suspicious as well, maybe it’s age and maybe it’s one to many junk calls (yesterday’s was Angelina saying I had a refund for internet security if I pressed 1…).

Red, yeah, the cracking of a tree/branch can be a lot louder than one thinks and is usually so unexpected that you jump when it happens.

purp, woe betides anyone who critiques anyone’s breaking fast in this group. And between transformers blowing and tree limbs falling and alarms sounding, it’s been a noisy MMP this last 24 hours!

Nettie, hang in there. And does your Wal-Mart have the self-serve checkouts? They are my go-to if I have 1-5 items and with 12 stations (6 at each end) it’s usually not a big wait.

Bumba, well done on the home repair. I would have been at a loss on what to do, outside of calling someone who did know (and wanted $$$ for their knowledge being employed).

OK, need to do a few things about the house and make myself presentable for the maintenance folks. All y’all have a good Thorsday.

Working at home today. Answering questions from physicians and nurses. Not life or death matters thankfully.

I’m venturing into unfamiliar territory this weekend: I’m going to make a shrimp boil. I’ve got a fancy kit and everything. We have another family coming over for dinner tomorrow night and I figured that it was a perfect back-porch food so we can all keep a modicum of distance from each other while drinking beer and eating too much while the kids go nuts in the common ground behind our house. Hopefully I won’t blow it - this will be my first experience with Old Bay, but it seems like a pretty straightforward operation. You take shrimp, corn, potatoes and sausage and boil it, dunk it in fairly distressing quantities of butter and everyone’s happy. I’ll keep the pizza delivery numbers in my back pocket just in case.

Happy Thorsday!

It was a rainy morning, but then the sun came out, then it got cloudy again, so mother nature needs her prozac.

Bella came to the park today, we haven’t seen her in ages. Her owner has pretty severe ptsd, and has a tendency to go on benders.
I hope he keeps it together and continues to come to the park.

I drove my neighbor to the drug store yesterday, the roommate of the neighbor who brings me cake, and cookies warm from the oven, and caramel apples. He thought he was imposing on me to ask, and I’m thinking really? You bring me home made food and you think you are imposing asking me for a ride???!!!
Anyway, he filled me in on the neighborhood gossip and I was enjoying it way more than I should.
Screeching Banshee and her neighbor have been fighting with each other, which is why a wall was built between their front doors, and probably why Screeching Banshee and family have been hanging in their back yard instead of out front. Works for me as I don’t have to hear her screeching anymore. Supposedly driver of ugly irk truck is her husband, but I think he is a bf, not a husband. He hasn’t been around very long and he doesn’t live there. I figure he must be partially deaf, if she can make my ears bleed from all the way across the street, I cannot imagine what it must be like to be up close and personal.
One of their fights was because in February she let one of the kids outside, no shirt, no shoes, and he ate a popcicle on the the neighbor’s side of the porch, making a mess. The neighbor was pissed because he had to go out and clean up sticky popcicle off the porch, and he let her have it for letting the kid out half dressed in the cold, and told her she needed to get up off her lazy fat ass and take care of him. Told her she was white trash and she said that at least she owned her home and isn’t renting like he is. I’m pretty sure she is renting. Easy enough to find out. She babysits a mess of kids, probably with no licence, and I know I wouldn’t let her take care of my kid. Near as I can tell, all she does is sit on her fat, lazy ass and screech at them all day.
I haven’t heard Big-Mouthed Buffoon for a while, which is a blessing. At least his voice is deep and doesn’t make my ears bleed.

I knew the woman across the street from me had a mess of cats, or so I had heard. I knew she had at least three because I’ve seen three sitting in the window at the same time. Anyway, somebody turned her in, animal control came out, and they took 34 cats out of her house. All were healthy but three.

I need to sit out front more often, I miss all the good stuff.

I was out front the other night talking with my neighbor.
I told her the drug house is like a reverse clown car. People kept going in, but nobody was coming out. At least 20 people went in there, I don’t know where you’d put that many people, it had to be getting crowded in there.

I’ve cooled off a bit from my encounter with the neighbor two doors up.
She started giving me a bunch of shit saying my dogs are ‘harassing’ her. Uh no, they may annoy you at times, but they are not ‘harassing’ you. They are dogs. Sometimes when she comes out or lets her dogs out, my dogs bark. When I hear them barking I make them come in, and her dog barks too. Sometimes they have a barkfest, other times they ignore each other. I have no idea why they sometimes bark. Anyway, I was sitting out back with my two, or weren’t doing anything and she started giving me a bunch of shit about it, and how she can’t even come out her back door without them harassing her, and she can’t even sit in her yard - which she was just doing, and well, to be honest,my dogs did go over and look through the fence at her - I guess that is harassment? Then she started yelling at me because Ripple is so vicious. No, Ripple isn’t vicious, but I will agree that he can sound pretty intimidating.
Anyway, there was no reason for her to be that nasty. All she had to do was ask nicely, not jump all over me. Dogs bark at each other, I bring them in, and they are not harassing you by looking at you through the fence. They are not even harassing you when they bark at you. And yes you can walk out your back door, they are on this side of the fence, and yes you can sit in your yard. If you can’t handle them looking through the fence at you then you need to get some help.
Get a grip.
That said, I know part of the reason she is so upset is that the neighbor between us is not taking care of her house or yard. There is still a HUGE pile of junk on her back porch, the missing window finally got boarded up but still hasn’t been fixed, she refuses to cut down the trees that are growing through the fence and knocking it over. I know the neighbor two doors up is afraid of the fence falling over and her dog getting out or my dogs getting over into her yard. My son and I have repaired the fence as best we can, and the dogs aren’t getting out, but I cannot make the neighbor between us fix the fence, or cut down the trees, or clean off her porch, or fix the missing window. I dodn’t know why the junk on the back porch or the broken window bother her so much. I would happily get the trees cut down and the fence tightened up and take the stuff to the dump and even get somebody in to fix the window - except I am NOT going to pay for it. I mow and trim my neighbor’s yard because my dogs use it, but now I am seriously considering just putting in a fence to separate our yards. Then the trees and fence and overgrown weeds will be between the two of them and whatever happens on the other side of the fence is not my problem. If the fence between them falls down, my neighbor is not going to care, she will not fix it, and it will be on the neighbor two doors up to handle it. Just like my neighbor doesn’t care that the wall between us in the addition is crumbling. I am going to have to repair it, because she doesn’t give a fuck. But there is no sense in me fixing it as long as she is not going to replace the window on her side.
So I think the neighbor two doors up is just frustrated because she has asked my neighbor to take care of things and my neighbor says she will but she never does. The neighbor two doors up did call the landlord and that is when we found out my neighbor owns the house now. She’s a hoarder, she will not let anybody into her house, and she is not going to clean up her yard either.

The neighbor two doors up offered to split the cost of cutting down the trees, but my neighbor isn’t going to do it, she doesn’t care. She doesn’t care if we cut them down, but she isn’t going to do it.
We’d cut them down if it wasn’t for the wires running close to them.

But don’t take it out in me. I have done the best I can with what I have to clean up the neighbor’s yard, but I am not going to spend money on somebody else’s property.
AND…neighbor two doors up doesn’t take care of her place all that well either. At one time the weeds in her part of parking pad were taller than my head, and it’s already looking pretty bad over there, so she really needs to clean up her own house before she bitches about somebody else.
And she will be cleaning them up from now on, because I’m not doing it for her anymore.

So, I’m thinking of putting in a fence, takes me out of the equation, not my problem anymore, and those two can fight it out. It also means I will no longer be taking care of neighbor’s backyard, and then the neighbor two doors up will really have something to complain about.

I just wonder how much it is going to cost me, because there are trees growing on the property line between us too, and they are huge. And the shared patios. I guess the fence people know how to handle that shit.

Afternoon, mumpers! I am tired and unmotivated today, which is a bad thing because I’ve got a lot of stuff to do and I Don Twanna!

It’s been a funny kind of day, it was grey and grim when I got up this morning, it’s been windy and we’ve had rain. Now we have some sun to brighten things up but I’ve had to put my big fluffy slippers on 'cos my toesies were cold.

I’ve been keeping the postal service busy this week, and today I got to open two packages that had been in quarantine on the doormat…one pilates bar exercise thingie that works better than resistance bands for some exercises, two t-shirts from a radio station in New Zealand, and the best one of all…a beautiful little book full of photos, lyrics and stories behind the making of an album (Danny Vaughn’s “Myths, Legends and Lies”). The CD is a collection of his solo songs that never made it onto any of his other albums, almost like a little bunch of orphans, that was funded by fans originally through Pledge Music and then via a different donation site when PM went down the pan. A loyal bunch of fans have been behind this album from the minute he started talking about it, and this little book is like a precious little extension of that family.

Thus I shall go and listen to a bit of it while I am avoiding doing any irk…

Last night, I had a voicemail from a collections agency looking for my ex-SIL. He’s not lived here in over 10 years and my phone number was never his. And it’s not the first time I’ve gotten such a call. Weird.

And it just happened that yesterday, daughter mentioned that he, his current wife, and their daughter all have COVID.

Mundane and pointless, like is says up there…

Hah, RIGHT? The kid left me on video chat with her cousin (same age) while she went to the bathroom the other day and he showed me his cars and spaceships and pokemon cards and then sat there and read animal jokes to me for approximately 39 hours. “That’s a good one. Haha. Oh, I get it! A poodle! Wonder what’s taking your cousin so long. What? A carrot? That’s funny!”

Shoe Fluffernutter sandwich has long been on my “want to try” list, but I had always heard it was made with marshmallow fluff. And I have no idea what else I might use that whole jar of it for if I tried a fluffernutter sandwich and hated it. Never thought of using just marshmallows. The fluff sometimes comes without gelatin, so it’s better vegetarian-wise. But I’ll admit it… I’m not always that strict about gelatin. I think we actually have some marsmallows in the pantry, so maybe I’ll try it.

Hard to believe it’s only Thursday. Yesterday alone seemed fourteen years long. I had PT in the morning, so the kid went to work with her mom for a couple hours. We hadn’t had a lot of time together recently, so we had all kinds of stuff that we had been meaning to do for a little while that we did Monday and Tuesday. So yesterday, there was a combination of running out of big plans and me being physically too tired and painful to come up with and execute new ones. She let me know about 284 times that she was bored. Sorry 'bout it, kid. We did decorate her lantern/flashlight thing with stickers and watched some stuff on Youtube (on the big TV, so that was exciting) and that was about all I had in me. I offered to try to find Rapunzel and watch it together since I’ve never seen it, but I think what she was angling for was another experiment or craft project. I am not made of Montessori magic here.

I have no really big plans for today, either. I’m still tired and hurting pretty badly. The kitchen really needs to be cleaned, though, so maybe the two of us can tackle that (doesn’t that sound exciting) and then… we’ll go from there. We had intended a while ago to write letters to some of our friends/family, so maybe we’ll do that.
