My usual morning latte, and one of the scones I made yesterday. I think a Brit would call them rock cakes, not scones… they’re made with whole wheat flour, oats, dried cherries, butter, buttermilk… they’re pretty unbelievably tasty.
Today will be an egg, half a toasted bagel with smoked salmon/cream cheese, fruit and coffee.
Hubby came home last night, and brought us dinner from a Baltimore seafood place. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to eat all my food; I made it through the entire (large) cup of cream of crab soup, but only managed about 1/3 of my crab cake (they are huge) and about 1/2 of the baked potato he and I split. So breakfast this morning was the rest of my crab cake and baked potato!
Leftover dinner is usually one of my favorite breakfasts!
Like every day, nothing.
Girl Scout cookies… Samoas.
So far, just coffee, as I’ve been on conference calls since 6:30am. Reading all this, now I’m starving.
Damn you people.
Ok, so I finished my calls, and made a proper breakfast.
I started with an americano with half and half (I had made inferior drip coffee earlier because the espresso machine wakes everyone up). I put some Trader Joe’s chicken/apple/maple sausages in the griddle, and when those were done, I cooked up some egg whites (flavored with the sausage drippings), threw some Jalapeno Tabasco on the whole mess, and added a fresh buttermilk drop biscuit courtesy of my wife, with some red currant jelly. Sat down and ate with my wife and son, and now I’m ready to tackle the day (good thing, since it’s after 10).
Plain lowfat yogurt with oatmeal, flaxseed, walnuts and blueberries.
Chicken breast and broccoli.
This morning: Oat gruel with some imitation maple syrup.
Most days, raisin bran w/ 2% milk.
When I have time (or at least once a week for dinner):
Three large eggs, over easy. toast w/butter and grits.
I seldom eat meat for breakfast, unless it is more like brunch. My palate just doesn’t like bacon, sausage early in the morning. I like biscuits and gravy but I really don’t like within a couple of hours of waking up.
Juice: Seldom (tends to be tomato or grapefruit)
Coffee: NEVER (never consumed a full cup of coffee in my life)
Honey Nut Bunches of Os with almond milk.
(That’s a bowl of 1/2 Honey Bunches of Oats [with Almonds] and 1/2 Honey Nut Cheerios.)
Homemade smoked whitefish salad liberally slathered onto a poppyseed bagel and French-pressed coffee for yours truly; sourdough egg-in-the-hole, a rasher of bacon, diced cantaloupe with a dollop of vanilla yogurt and chai tea for daughter #1; poached egg on pumpernickel toast, corned beef hash and fresh-squeezed orange juice for daughter #2; Kibbles N Bits N leftover scrapple for the schnoodle—eclectic tastes make breakfast-time a daily challenge. Today was High-Cholesterol Morning; tomorrow it’s back to High-Fiber/Low-Fat/No Fun Day.
Woke up hungry after a light dinner last night. Low on food (Saturday is grocery day) so scavenged around. Ended up with duck-fat fried potatoes, onions, and orange bell pepper, scrambled eggs on the side. Delicious! And different - for some reason, I never think of potatoes for breakfast.
Fout Thank You Berry Munch Girl Scout cookies and black coffee.
Bowl of store-brand Cheerios.
A mini bagel spread with peanut butter and a banana. And Coffee. I’m being good… I’d rather have a donut or four.
Another of the cherry-oat scones and my usual latte. I then branched out into a stick of string cheese and a banana.
French toast sticks, maple syrup, strawberry/banana yogurt with a glass of milk. Nom.
Pushing 11pm Saturday here, but this morning we went to the Bangkok branch of the New York City cafe chain Dean & Deluca. It was more like brunch, so I had a turkey-and-caramelized-onion sandwich. The wife had a salmon-and-cream-cheese bagel. We shared some clam chowder and a Waldorf salad. Followed by some New York baked cheese cake, lemon merengue tart and some sort of chocolate mousse thingy. To drink, iced mocha coffee for me, iced tea for her.
