I’m impressed you could type that and still keep the contents of your digestive system intact.
Ah, but if said riot had a purpose and happened organically and in an appropriate place…I’m picturing an angry mob come to drag Trump & associates into the street for a brutal town hall meeting. There is such a business practice as “avoiding even the appearance of impropriety” which it would behoove even politicians to heed. Falling to an angry mob without a legit trial would be a terrible stain on a democracy, but can one really blame the mob if the subject has been aware of his image and done nothing to right or explain it? And would not such a spectacle at least inspire others to do a better job of not promoting their own traitorous image? Maybe we need to make a huge mistake. Maybe several.
I have an irony stomach.
The issue I have with this approach is that when you ask the question “And when does it end?” there are only two possible answers:
-
With the utter overthrow and replacement of the existing system.
-
With the perpetrators of the riot/rebellion arrested and censured with ample room left for the lionization of their victims.
There are doubtlessly plural people out there that think that option 1 is way overdue, but when something like that happens you’re rolling the dice on the sort of governmental system you get out of it. I’m not sure I like the idea of living in an absolute dictatorship, even if (this decade) it’s led by the calm and reasonable people who would murder for justice.
And as for option 2, well, in the musical Assassins the song about John Wilkes Booth includes this:
But traitors just get jeers and boos
Not visits to their graves
While Lincoln, who got mixed reviews
Because of you, John, now gets only raves
If a Democrat wins the presidency and then turns around and pardons Trump, they are practically guaranteeing themselves a single term.
A guy? Melania’s under orders to see to it Trump suffers a tragic home accident once he’s outlived his usefulness.
No, you’re thinking of the invasion and occupation of Iraq and the kidnapping and torture of its citizens.
Don’t forget the encouragement of disease! The people who think life is a sacred gift from God are encouraging flu epidemics now as well. Seems an appropriate thing for swine to do.
Some GOP politicians will still support him. People like Rep King.
“No charge”.
There is nothing that Trump likes more than campaigning (except maybe golf). I expect he will go around the country campaigning full-time, denouncing every single one of Biden’s policies and actively run for the 2024 nomination. Which he might get since he has his base of 40% which must give him a majority of Republicans.
Paul Krugman has an interesting column today in which he tries to analyze why the farmers who are suffering so much from the trade war continue to back Trump by a huge margin (I think it was 80%). His conclusion is that they understand MAGA to mean let’s go back to the way things were in the 60s when we were better off.
An even more fascinating question: what is the future for the Dems if Trump rabble-rouses his way to a second term? I think it is distinctly likely. There is no leader of the caliber of Obama in the Dem camp.
I think the Democratic Party would be damaged, perhaps mortally, by a second loss to Trump. But the Republican Party would also lose, big-time, if he won. He explicitly rejects traditional Republican values and positions. Perhaps both parties reform themselves?
But do his Supreme Court picks?
I have no idea what you mean.
Oh, sorry. You said: “the Republican Party would also lose, big-time, if he won. He explicitly rejects traditional Republican values and positions.” My question is: do his Supreme Court picks reject traditional Republican values and positions?
I’m quite sure that they’d rather lose the next election than actually hold the Republicans accountable for something. For decades now the Democrats have put catering to the Republicans above any other concern.
I have no come back, but just want to say I’m in awe of your wit there.
First he will have a tanTrump. Then he will have a lot of executive time on his hands. 57 years according to my calculations, and I wish him a very long life to enjoy them in full. Or, if he gets sentenced in a State that still aplies the capital punishment, he will have a brief moment to repent of his sins. Not the ones you think of, sadly, but he will come to regret something.
I’m not a Trump fan or anything, but why would you assume that?
I know this was not directed at me, but my guess is that some, will realize that the Trump brand is Fools Gold.
Others, will of course, buy the worthless gold wrapped image that he sells. He’s what you get when grounded on an airplane and forgot to bring something to read.
