What's in *your* wallet - a nosy MMP

Yeah, we had home grown green beans last year at about $20 per bean. Lettuce and pumpkins were a total loss. At least the tomatoes did better.

Eek! Just did a little math on the cost of the new immunotherapy drug.

It’s more expensive than inkjet printer ink. Roughly $178,000 per milligram.

Oh dear. Perhaps some nice parsley instead? Sounds like a better bargain!

I’ve been lucky with most of my landscaping costs so far. We had our home site cleared 2 summers ago, and the grass seeded itself beautifully. Most of the shrubs have been gifts from my mom and aunt - azaleas and palms and roses and figs and beauty berry, started from their gardens. I did buy a blueberry, a kiwi, and two gardenias from the farm supply, and The Boy gave me a hydrangea for Mother’s Day last year. And my niece gave me a stray raspberry that she tried to grow in a pot on the patio. His name is Steve, and she got tired of being attacked by a giant thorny bush on her little 6×12 deck. I’m also planning to go get cuttings from both of my late grandmothers’ yards - camellias and crape myrtle and such - and I have a couple of dogwood and magnolia saplings marked for transplant this fall. They’re growing wild in the woods on the back of the property. I think I’ve spent $44 on plants and seeds for an acre of open yard, so no complaints on cost. (Plus $90 for pine straw mulch, and a $5 bag of fertilizer.)

Meanwhile, The Boy is getting geared up for his senior prom. When did he get so tall? And how do I just let him grow up and go away?

Morning, mumpers! It’s back to winter over here, we have cold wet weather and temperatures back in single digits. I’s chilly!

Nothing exciting going on today, I went grocery shopping last night so the vodka supplies have been replenished again. 'Im indoors made curry for dinner last night but not the sort that generates leftovers for lunch so I have king prawns with spinach, watercress, pea shoots and cherry tomatoes with seas salt and a ginger and chilli dressing.

I’m hoping for a nice quiet day in the office, leaving early and heading off to a spin class tonight. Then I will be up early tomorrow to get my hair cut, and we’re off to Scotland for the rest of the weekend. Och, aye!

Happy Firday!

I’m up too early, I knew sleeping through the night the last two nights was just a fluke.

It’s a chilly 46 degrees, the heat has been running all night. It’s supposed to get up to 65, so that is good.

Today is cat choosing day.
I’m excited, the son not so much. I think he’ll like the cat once we get one.

I want a cat…

Planning on leaving work early. We’re supposed to get 1h for lunch, which I never take anyway (I bring my own food, so even with queues at the microwaves I take 20’ most), but this week I’ve had to eat at my desk 3 times (theoretically forbidden) due to a combination of lunchtime meetings and a complete inability to think when my blood sugar is low. I’ve also had a 1h30’ meeting outside of normal work hours. So, compensation time, here I come! Planning on going to shoot a few arrows, it’s sunny and nice; now let’s see if it stays that way by the time I’m leaving.

That’s your job - getting him prepared to be a productive member of society so he can support you in your old age! That’s what I told my daughter. Wonder if that’s why she moved to Orlando - because she knows how much I hate Florida…?

I envy your landscaping successes. Our soil has way too much clay in it, so growing things can be a challenge. And apparently things I do manage to grow are favorite deer snacks. Stoopit deer! I had dozens of really lush hostas throughout my yard, and at least half are gone now. Between the deer in the front and the moles all over the place, I lose too many pretty flowers. And I don’t bother with tomatoes any more because of the damned squirrels! I just buy Amish tomatoes and have done with it.

TGIF!! I am so ready for a weekend, and it’s supposed to be really pretty out. I’ll finally rake out the front garden and mow the ditch. I may even pull a weed or two.

**Spidey **- despite being in the boonies, this is a residential neighborhood and a no-shooting zone if the projectiles are harder than nerfs. :stuck_out_tongue: And hatchets are just for juggling here - nobody harms my trees!!!

swampy, I’m with you and the sinus stuff. I come out of work and my blue car is covered with yellow tree sex! It wasn’t bad when we got rain every few days, but we’re in for a dry stretch. ugh.

Anyway, Happy Firday!!

Remember when he still walked by lifting his knees waaaaay up, and he’d walk from his dad to you and then you’d turn him around and let him walk back?

Like that.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, caffeinated, brekkied, and purtified so no YAWN. ‘Tis 55 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 61 Amurrkin and rain for the day. Fine by me cause I am irkin’ from da cave today. I slept close to eleven hours last night. I didn’t even have an idea when OYKW came to bed and it ain’t like he’s all delicate and quiet when doin’ such.

I suppose I could go ahead and log in. ICK!

Happy Firday Y’all!

Firday? Finally?

I have a lawn, no trees, no flowers, no vegatable garden…just grass and a couple of humps in the front yard where two trees were removed and (inexpertly) had the dirt replaced (I tell folks the big one is where Jimmy Hoffa is buried–the smaller one is Amelia Earhart…)

Rained off and on the past two days, but supposed to be dry for the weekend. Taking a half-day off today (simply because I can), and then it’s two more weeks to retirement…still doesn’t seem real yet.

ruble, if you’re going to SQUEEEEE!! at a same sex wedding, I must respectfully ask just how involved in the cermonies do you plan to get?:p:D

swampy, wish I could sleep 11 hours…barely got seven in today.

I’m back to my stupid sleep cycle - waking at 3 for no apparent reason. Ergo, I’m dragging today… And waiting for the boss to bring me something to do. What is it with my bosses??

I did the math. I can grow my own produce at roughly 4.5X the cost of buying it at Wally*World, and that doesn’t account for the ripped up hands and sore muscles from hoeing throughout the summer.

Therefore, I have decided that despite the stuff from the local farmer’s markets still coming in at 1.8X the rate for the same raw produce from WW, I’ll just buy the farmer’s market produce to can and still come out ahead. Plow under most of the garden except for a spot to grow spices and herbs, then plant the rest with hummingbird flowers. VBob wins!

I’ve considered a shotgun wedding as a theme, seriously. The guests are to bring either a 12 or 20 gauge shotgun, unloaded, and are issued a flare round. Then, during the recessional, instead of the usual rice or birdseed shower, as the new couple leaves the guests shoot their provided flare into the sky… Follow-up with a hog roast for the reception.

Of course, you’d need to find a preacher or judge with one hell of a sense of humor to go along with it.

**BBBobbio **- just a thought - you might not want to quit your day job to become a wedding planner…

Still waiting for the boss to bring work. lalalalalalalala

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Closing shift tonight.

I hope a cat chooses you, too.

That would be epic.

I should believe that the smaller is Hoffa, for the other contains Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan.

FINALLY gonna get something to do. Only twiddled my thumbs for nearly 2 hours…

oh god it’s friday. it’s even a short friday (off at 4, yay!), but I have to host two different families with babies at my house (I don’t have kids) for the whole weekend, and shuttle people back and forth to a few events in town and the next city over.

Uuuuuuuuuuuugggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I don’t know why I agree to these sorts of things, I know I’m an introvert. I guess that’s the price you pay for friends.

I ***was ***sneaky and already scheduled a “sick” day off work on Monday, because I’m gonna play hooky and go out of town by myself for some R&R - I’m gonna need it by then.

Witness of Record - they are going more the Quaker format. We are their responsible adults; which goes to show just how shallow their “friend pool” is!

Actually with how fast this came up our first question to the guys was which of the two was pregnant.

One of my cousins got married at a gun club; really lovely place out in the country and all with the reception at the same place. Over the banner saying “wedding here” they had a pair of crossed shotguns and after the ceremony and before the reception started everyone was invited to pop a few clay birds. Their Pastor was fine with it all (ELCA like me) and it really was very nice if somewhat odd.

As I’ve mentioned before and will again when I invite all the Mumpers to our family day at Knoebels, in my crew I’m the shy quiet backward and conservative one. Some of the rest on Dad’s side can get downright rambunctious and silly. :smack:

Yeah, that was my first thought when I met you - what a shy, quiet, backward fellow that is…

Well, boss gave me work, but I don’t have the permissions to do what needs to be done on the computer, so as soon as he sets things up, I’m off!
