What's that video game in BIG?

I’ve been playing some old PC games recently (Space Quest 3, Scorched Earth, Aces of the Pacific, etc.) and I got to thinking: What was that video game that Tom Hanks’ character played in Big? I tried searching the web to no avail. All I know is from the movie: you’re in the palace of the evil wizard…slain ice dwarves lay all around. Then he kills the wizard with the thermal pod.

Is this a real game? If so, what’s it called?

Jman

If it was a real game, its natural language skills were very impressive.

Actually, lots of early adventure games had surprisingly good language skills, for the situation. For example, the Space Quest series. Walk around and say “look at object” …it tells me it’s a warp motivator. I say “Pick up motivator.” It tells me it’s too heavy. I go to a broken eye in a robot and say “Climb in eye” Sure enough, my guy climbs in the eye. It is definitely not out of the question that “melt wizard” would be understood.

Jman

He didn’t type ‘melt wizard’… it was far more complex than that… it was something along the lines of ‘go into the cave, pick up the thermal pod and give it to the wizard so I can kill him.’

Don’t have the actual script or anything, but I saw the film recently and thought that was pretty funny.

Here’s the part of the script from the gaming scene…maybe it will help everyone figure out the game:

JOSH
You are standing in the cavern of the evil wizard. All around you are
the carcasses of slain ice dwarfs…Melt wizard…What do you want to
melt him with? …Throw thermal pod.

The first part is the description given by the computer…then the command “melt wizard”. The computer replies “what do you…” and the he types “throw thermal pod.”

Any guesses?

I have the Kings Quest collector’s edition and Space Quest collector’s edition right in front of me, I’ve had them for years, and Jman, lemme tell ya. I know exactly the part of the game you’re talking about. Did you go down into the trash heap and piss off the rats yet? Having trouble with the robot on the conveyor yet? I LOVED those damn games when I was younger!

Well, it’s not one of the Zork games.

You can trust ol’ Frobozz on that.
