I’m pretty sure that you did.
I can see some people not being interested if they don’t care for the subject matter. But if you already know it’s your kind of movie get off your ass and watch it! Then watch part II. Then come back and discuss.
Just, for Og’s sake, don’t watch Part III.
Ditto. I loved the montage near the end of Raging Bull and the first hour of Goodfellas and that’s about all I have to say about Scorsese.
Citizen Kane
The Maltese Falcon
The Wizard of Oz
To Kill a Mockingbird…
in fact, I’ve see all of about 10 movies that were made before 1970.
What else…
Just about every Best Picture nominee in the last 10 years (excluding Titanic, Juno, A Beautiful Mind and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
Every movie made by Stanley Kubrick (excluding Clockwork Orange and The Shining.
Every movie made by Oliver Stone.
Good one, which I haven’t seen either.
But as for “best” movie that I’ve never seen… gotta go with Battleship Potemkin
Too late to edit: Of the Time Mag. list, I’ve seen 42. 44 if you count the LOTR movies as three (they’re listed as a single film, though).
Goodfellas, the Godfather, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind… yeah, they’re on my list. I’ll get to 'em.
Sitting under my TV is Clockwork Orange and Blood Simple. I’ll enjoy lots of random violence tomorrow while ironing.
But lots of classic, must-see movies are crap. I saw Raging Bull two years ago. What a yawn-a-rama.
Odd–you’re telling me. “Drunken Master II”? Really? Really?
Intolerance
Or so I’m told.
*Potemkin *is actually pretty entertaining; it’s always the first movie I recommend for silent-film “newbies.”
Interesting list; some of my favorites are on there, and also some pretty overrated films. I’ve seen 83 of them, and am reminded anew of some films I keep meaning to get to but haven’t ever quite managed to . . .
This is a surprise coming from you. Is there a reason?
No, just never quite got around to it. I think I own, it. And I’ve watched parts of it. But I always manage to get interrupted. I will see it eventually I’m sure.
This one is probably the best movie no one will ever see. The Holy Grail of silent movies:
London After Midnight. Supposedly, the only existing print was destroyed in a fire in 1967.
Rumor has it that someone up in Canada might have a print, so we got that going for us.
FYI, there are a LOT of movies that have been destroyed, many of them thought to be masterpieces. Von Stroheim’s original cut of Greed, for example.

I consider myself a movie buff but I’ve never seen Casablanca or* Citizen Kane. *
I agree, Lissener, a lot of lost, great films. But, all the forums and newsgroups dealing with silent films I’ve perused over the years have pretty much held one film as the Holy Grail of them all: London After Midnight.
This is probably a moot point, though, since, I’m sure, no one claiming it be given that distinction has ever seen it.
Me too (although I’d suspect it’s a different 53, but who knows). I still don’t understand the love for Finding Nemo, I’m like the only person on the planet that doesn’t like that movie.
As for the best movie I’ve never seen, according to AFI it’s High Noon.
Singin’ in the Rain is probably the most highly-rated movie I’ve never seen, followed by Some Like It Hot.
A highly-rated movie which I have no desire to see, ever, is Nashville. Altman just rubs me the wrong way.
