What's the Best Quarter so Far?

Slight hijack here, but what the heck. I was looking at the same thing one day, and it occurred to me that the backs of the coins are all going to wear differently. The branches of the tree will, ten years from now, be worn so the detail is gone and tiny branches are no longer visible. At some point, maybe all you’ll be able to see is the trunk?

I like the Connecticut quarter so far, but I haven’t seen Virginia’s yet.

Maryland is my least favorite, it’s just boring.

LMacG, we should work something out, I’ve got nothing but Denver mint out here (Oregon).

i like the massachusetts quarter design. i cannot get a virginia quarter in indiana for anything.

i also like the carter quarters.
:d&r:

I don’t like the Georgia one. But speaking of peaches looking like huge asses, if you’ve ever driven down I-85 through Gaffney, SC, there’s a big peach-shaped tower thing there. From a certain angle, as you head south, it looks like a gigantic butt hanging over the town. It’s very amusing.

The Virginia is my favorite so far. Saw my first one on Friday.

I’ve got two sets here, one for each of my kids. Their favorites are:

Claire: Georgia 'cause she likes peaches.

Andrew: He likes all of them (he’ll be a rich man someday:))
but when pressed by his sister, he pointed to Virgina.

Me:I think Delaware is classically elegant, more like traditional US coinage than the others.
NJ and VA are my choices because I like the historical contexts.

I’m only missing
P- DE, (2)PA, NJ,& (2)GA.
D- (2)MA, MY, (2)NH, & (2)VA.
Anybody who has these, I’d be willing to trade or pay.

If Michigan’s quarter doesn’t have a Model T, then it isn’t a real quarter! Unless they can find some picture that represents the Lions’ streaky play.

So when’s the French Quarter coming out?

:Ducks, swerves, avoids fridge:

Haven’t looked at the quarters with an eye to best or worst but I did notice on Virginia’s,they are celebrating Jamestowns 400th,1607-2007. We ARE still in 2000,right?

I’d be happy to send you one, if you’d like.

Also, what are the differences between the Denver and the Philly mint editions? I thought they were all the same…

Pammipoo,

One has a little tiny ‘P’, and one has a little tiny ‘D’.
Sorry, couldn’t resist.
I believe the mint mark is the only difference. If I’m wrong, I’m sure someone will be along to correct me presently.

MikeG, Got ya’ covered on the Denvers, except the Virginia. I’ll trade you for whatever Phillys you’ve got a surplus in if you’re still interested. My home e-mail is in my profile.

The best quarter so far has got to be the Standing Liberty design of 1917, variety 1. You can see Lady Liberty’s bare boob and everything.

I have the Georgia ones. I might have others, I haven’t looked much though. I collect spare change
I also work at McD’s, so sometimes I search through quarters while I’m waiting on customers.
I’ll keep an eye out for you.
And as far as payment goes, I’ll just give em to you

Another thought…you can buy the quarters from the net.
There might be better sites out there, but I found this…

A tad expensive, but it might be easier than tracking them down.

Wanted to start my own State Quarters Thread, but I decided to bump this one instead. I finally got an Ohio yesterday; once I get an Indiana, I’ll be up to date.

What do you think of the coins released so far?

The Mint’s State Quarter Site

Do you collect your coins from change, or do you get them from dealers?

What do you think of the colorized coins?

Can anyone point me to a link that shows rejected coin designs?

My favorites so far: SC, NC, and New York.

How about a winged wheel?

BTW, I like Virginia’s, too. Mississippi’s is kinda nice, though I’ve never seen one in the wild (so to speak).

OTOH, thanks to Lore Sjoberg Connecticut’s design always makes me think of the circulatory system of the kidney

I like the Tennessee quarter, myself.

Is it me, or do a lot of these quarters look rather thrown together? I mean, c’mon Ohio, you couldn’t think of anything more picturesque than a map of the state with an astronaut and an airplane superimposed? Same thing for you, Louisiana, although you went for the Louisiana purchase map for some reason. Last I looked, you were about 1/16th of the Louisiana purchase.

Of course, Massachusetts went for the same type of design, but managed to do it with a balanced and eye pleasing design.

I can’t wait for my two states to come out - Colorado! What’s THAT gonna be? A big square with a mountain superimposed, I suppose. And, like all things Michigan, the Michigan thing will have something to do with cars, even though the part of the state I come from has nothing at all to do with the automotive industry. If we’re really lucky, they’ll put a map of Michigan, sans the Upper Peninsula, like the ones that show up in the Detroit Free Press and a lot of US maps.

The other day someone asked me, “Have you seen the new Kentucky quarter?”

“Um, no,” I answered.

He displayed two dimes and a nickel taped together.

[sub]Us Ohioans just never let up on them Kentuckians…[/sub]

Ohio and Indiana really suck, don’t they? I thought Indiana had Skylab or some damn thing on it, first time I looked. Thought they were trying to trump Ohio’s goofy-looking astronaut.

Mississippi looks great, with them magnolias.

Another vote for Connecticut, with South Carolina a close second.

And another vote for New Hampshire as ugliest yet.
