What's the coolest car you've ever driven?

When I was in High school, I once drove my cousin’s Olds 442 convertible.

I drove a 72 LeMans for a couple of years. It was a hand-me-down from my grandfather.

When I brought our 2004 Audi A6 (which we recently bought, used) to the dealership for maintenance, they gave me a loaner, which happened to be a 2014 Audi A6. Wow. Drove great, and the gadgets were complicated and cool enough that there was no way we could learn how to use everything in just the day or two we had it.

I think this is one of the ways they try and hook us in to make us Audi customers for life. And it might just be working!

Test drive an A8L next time you’re there.
It’s way too big for me but it’s a fun test drive.

I’m still new to driving and have only driven about 4 different cars (including my friend’s van that I drove once.) I’d say the coolest car I’ve driven was my driving teacher’s hybrid. Don’t remember what the exact make/model name was, but it’s painted a nice gold colour.

Cool cars I’ve driven-
1959 Studebaker Golden Hawk
seventy-something Porsche 911

Coolest cars I owned-
1963 Studebaker Lark V-8
1967 Caprice 4 door hardtop

I got to briefly drive a friend’s new 1965 GTO with the Tri-power engine. That thing was a neck snapper. In about 1973, I transported a Camaro (or possibly a Nova; memory fades) (year unknown) for a dealer. It was really souped up, had oversized rear tires, loud pipes, etc. It didn’t corner well, but on the straightaways. . .hoo boy.

I’ve driven a 924 around town a couple times.

Oh, and I got to move a '59 Willys Jeep Pickup from one parking space to another.

Hard to say. Bently? Suspension is smoother than water in slow motion; key is to the left of the steering column. Not fast… but not slow. It glides.

Mercedes ALWAYS smell funny; can’t brag about any car where parking & leaving is the highlight of the trip.

BMWs can be fun (& they do smell better than Mercedes) but they are pretty common.

A friend once let me drive his Dad’s 440 six-pack charger; Possibly the fastest car I’ve ever driven (faster up a 30 degree angle hill than almost any sports sedan I’ve driven on flat road).

Lamborghini Countach. My BIL had one when I was a teenager, and he let me drive now and then.

I have some nice old sports cars that I love, but few things scream “outlandish” and can back it up like a Countach. I’ve driven Lambos and Ferarris and other exotics since then, but there’s just something about that car that makes me just think " Yes!"

Plus, you can do thiswith cute girls…

First place goes to my buddy’s Tiger.
2nd to another buddy’s 1967 Corvette.
Honorable mention to my 914, heading north on Highway 1…

Does it count if you were passenger, not driver? If so, my best is a Bugatti Type 35.

I don’t know if this counts as a car but I got to drive a 1940’s era military Japanese aquatic vehicle once. They wouldn’t let me go all the way underwater with it but I drove it through a pond. It might have been this one, or very similar. This was back in the 1980s when I was driving a semi over the road. I had to make a small LTL delivery to a military museum near Indianapolis and ended up spending the day there - staff let me drive several vintage military vehicles.

Driving a semi is also pretty cool.

Mercedes 300SL. Facel Vega Facellia. Rolls Royce Silver Shadow.

It’s quite a bit faster than that. Depending on the tire package, 0-60 times were reported as low as 4.6 seconds.

I ordered one as soon as the rumors that they would import them into the US started to swirl around. Waited two years for it to show up, got I think what was the eighth or ninth at my dealer.

It isn’t hugely powerful, but it’s also 1,500 pounds less than comparable cars. I took mine to the track frequently, and found it to be really, really quick up to about 120, but it started losing steam after that.

That’s most likely the coolest car I’ve ever driven. I’ve sat and ridden in way better, in a couple cases, cars worth millions of dollars, but haven’t driven 'em.

Yeah, 6 seconds isn’t all that impressive. Hell, a 2014 Ford Focus ST, a $24k car does it in 5.9 seconds.

My High School car was a 1964 Impala Super Sport

The one in the picture is just like the one I had. I sold it for $750.00 Who knew it would be worth all that money now.

It had to have been the 1965 Pontiac GTO Convertible. Damn thing was a beast, show room stock with no modification. You had to be there.

Wow, that Lotus is sharp. Sheeesss.

For myself? Gonna brag. It’s the plow truck. But not my daily driver. William is it’s name.

Took me a while to find it since I did go used. 2004 Dodge Ram shortbed regular cab (I need the short wheelbase). Black (Got lucky, black paint helps melt the snow off of it). I put a Western plow on it and a 10,000 lb Warn winch on the back. Extra backup lights too (for plowing)

Yes, you can get stuck in a 4x4 plow truck with chains on all four wheels. It sucks, and means you are about to have a very, VERY bad day. Hence, the winch.

Our SUV’s still get stuck in snow here. But the winch on the new plow truck has made it less of an ordeal. It’s a lot less of an ‘oh shit’ moment and more of a ‘gaahh, I’ll go fire up the truck’.

Winched out the truck, our SUV’s and the neighbors Jeep/plow last winter.

Gazinga!

William replaces my '76 Chevy shortbed plow truck that I had had since high school.

  • 30 feet of measured snow last winter at our house. Yep, feet.

I had a Porsche 911SC. I don’t know how ‘cool’ it was, but it sure was a blast to drive!
