As seems to be her current style, her appearance is going from worse to worser.
She has now turned her ratty black beehive into a bedraggled blonde mess.
So much talent apparently being pissed away moment by moment.

So what is she taking all that medication for? She has a nice voice, and Rehab was catchy – if misguided – pop with good horn scoring. But Beth Orton (among many others) sings better, looks better, and will still be alive two years from now. Amy Winehouse is going to live fast, die young, and leave a barely-recognizable corpse. Given all the chemicals, I’m not even sure if it will be legal to cremate her.
Earlier today I decided that Back to Black is my favorite album from 2007. My current favorite song from it is Tears Dry On Their Own.
Before seeing this thread I didn’t know that things were as bad for her as they are. It’s alarming. I hope she gets better and continues to make great music.
“A bag of antlers.” That is awesome (and sadly apt).
I had never heard her voice until one of these threads. I made a snark comment about skanks with no talent, and someone linked to “You Know That I’m No Good.” Holy crap, that skank can sing.
As a drunk and a junkie (sober now, thanks), I can see where this one is likely to end up. Waste of talent, and pretty sad.
I just love her and I hate seeing pics of her now and I hate how everyone makes fun of her. If, just if, the media wasn’t up in every “star’s” face at all times, we wouldn’t have to see the gory details of Amy Winehouse’s (or anyone else’s) life on display. I wonder if people would have made constant fun of Janis Joplin if her every move was online to discuss. Actually, I don’t wonder because I know if it was her right now it would be the same thing.
All I know is I hate listening to Back to Black, and knowing that she might not ever make another album because she’s so sick. It makes me sad that I’ll probably never get to see her in concert, and even if I do she probably can’t sing the way she used to.
Also, people say she’s like the British Britney Spears because of all her drama, and that’s crap. She has more talent in the tip of her pinky finger than Britney has ever had. Amy Winehouse is more of a tortured artist type than a Holywood attention-whore type. I’m not sickened by her like I am by Britney, because I hold out a little bit of hope that somehow she’ll turn it around and come out on top. It’s happened to other people, look at Steven Tyler or Nikki Sixx or any of those rock stars who kicked heroin. If they can do it, maybe Amy can too.
Also my favorite CD of 2007. I just love her, and I feel so bad for her that she’s having such extreme personal problems. Really hoping she can get her shit together and soon. I’m listening to her right now… goddamn she can sing.
She needs an intervention and she needs one soon. Or she and her husband will go the way of Sid and Nancy.
Oooh, that wasn’t good.
I’m not saying her getting and staying sober is impossible- just improbable. Listen, one of the things that makes heroin so hard to kick is that it’s great. They don’t call it “euphoria” because it sucks.
Of course, I personally have no idea if she’s a heroin addict. Just a guess.
How not to listen to Amy Winehouse - I was just listening to a bunch of soulful Prince (nice, late in the evening stuff), switched to Amy Winehouse for this thread, and now I’m back to Prince - she has average talent compared to the real thing. I liked her music at first, but the more I listened to her, the less I liked it - not a good sign of talent. As for her personally, alarming is a good word for it. I hate to see anybody piss their life away, but you can’t help someone who won’t help themselves.
I’ve never been very impressed by her. Yeah, she can sing a bit–throw her back in time about 50 years and she might have been passably good enough to be backup singer for one of the lesser-known Motown acts. The fact that we’re all so ga-ga about her now is a sad sign of our times, IMHO.
I like every song on “Back to Black” and they’ve all been pretty much constantly present on my playlist since I got them. I have heard some vague references to personal problems in her life, but this thread was the first time I read anything specific. I still don’t know what she looks like, but I’ll follow a few of the links once I’ve posted.
