Racecar drivers and Autobahn drivers are welcome to weigh in.
For me, it was when I was a young teenager in the early 70’s with my buddy in his '70 Dodge Charger, I think we hit about 140 mph.
Back then, I got my dad’s old Chevy wagon up to around 120, but it started “floatin”, and I am lucky to be alive, what with the Boones Farm…
BTW, I am just goin by the speedo, so I could be wrong, but it seemed DAM fast.
145, I had a Ferrari mondial as a company car, which was replaced by a Bentley turbo (130 approx), which
Was replaced with zilch, I’ve been pedestrianated (wonder why).
I’ve gotten up to 230K in my Dad’s BMW, what’s that, just under 140? But it made me quite sick to my stomach, so I don’t do that anymore. Usually, I drive 160, but that’s because my car won’t go any faster.
104 mph in my 1994 Mitsubishi pickup on I-95 just south of Houlton, Maine. The engine is 4 cylinders, 2.4 litres. The truck had a lot more in it, but I chickened out when it seemed the tires left the ground with every little bump in the road. Maybe with a little more weight over the rear axle . . .
Me driving? About 110 in my 2000 Chrysler Concorde on I-80 at 3 in the morning.
Someone else driving? My friend had a mid-80’s Monte Carlo SS with a blown 454 and nitrous. He got it up to about 140 with me in it. On a windy back country road.
Probably around 130 on the track. Street stocks ain’t that quick.
Off track, once went 115 in my dad’s old Honda Accord.
Sadly, the fastest I’ve been in my Cavalier is 82. It can go faster – my dad’s had it up to 125, reportedly – but I haven’t had a chance to put it through its paces.
Driving myself: 255 km/h (158 MPH) in a BMW M 635 CSi, on the German Autobahn. Car belonged to a friend of mine, and was over ten years old already. It topped out at 285 on the speedo… scary.
As a passenger: 284 real clocked TAG Heuer km/h (177 MPH) in a Ferrari Testarossa, full race trim (no aircon, no interior other than race seats and a roll cage), at the Dutch Zandvoort racetrack (former F1 track). Sweet mother of God, that was AWESOME.
My current car tops out at 170 km/h (106 MPH). It’s for my own good
Dad’s exaggerating, dear. Fuel cuts at 112 unless it’s computer is modified.
Me, the fastest I’ve been is:
145 in a 1987 Escort GT HO 1.9 5 speed
120 in a 1987 Crew Cab Long Bed C/1500 w/350 and granny tranny
112 in a 1990 Cavalier Z24 3.1 5 speed
100 in a 1989 Dodge Caravan
95 in a 1988 Escort Pony
85 in a 1992 Geo Metro 5 speed
And that’s all the cars I’ve taken up to their top.
No idea about cars, but my dearly beloved Aprilia RS 250 motorcycle could do 220 km/h - not too shabby for a 250 cc two-stroke. That was a seriously fun bike, I’d love to get my hands on one again. “Money makes the world go 'round, but two-strokes make it go faster.”
My current bike (Duc 748) does about 240 km/h flat out, head down, elbows tucked in. The speedo says 265, but that’s simply not true.
Sitting in a bean bag chair (with a cooler full of cold beer), facing backwards, going down Afton Mountain on I-64. The bean bag chair (with me in it) was in the back of a friend’s modified 1970 El Camino. He tapped on the window, I turned around and he pointed to the speedo. It was pegged. The world just whipped on by.
About 165 mph. OK, it was not a street legal car. A friend of mine raced at Bandimere Speedway near Morrison Colorado. It was almost 20 years ago. It was a Ford Mustang, with a 427 (I think), blower, roll cage, 5 point harnesses. That was the fastest acceleration and highest speed for four wheels I’ve ever experienced.
128 indicated, 126.5 verified by GPS, in my Mustang GT. It could have gone a bit faster, but my passenger had obviously changed their mind so out of respect for them I dropped to under 80. Allegedly, the car is good for an honest 144 before the computer shuts it down…
Homer - 145 in an Escort GT? Indicated or real speed? If it was real, there is no way that was stock - there just isn’t enough hp to overcome the drag IMO.
Car: 110 in my 97 Integra GS-R. I haven’t really tried with my 96 300ZX, but I have had it to 100.
Bike: 110 - 120 a lot of times on I-66 heading home. One time when it was 3 of us, I got it up to 135 and my friend passed me like it was nothing sob Thats when I decided to get a new bike G Came so close to buying a red Ninja 6R this weekend. But dealer wouldn’t give me close to what I need on my bike.
In Italy, I took my BMW 320 up to 200 Km/h regularly, on two lane roads, no less.
I got a rented Oldsmobile Aurora up to about 115MPH before the fuel cut on a trip from Nebraska back to Colorado.
During a drive theough Montana, shortly before the speed limit was reestablished, I took a Pontiac Grand Prix GT well over 100MPH, but couldn’t go faster because of impending snow.
And finally, I’ve taken my truck, A '99 Dodge Ram up to 120, with room to spare. Wait till I get that supercharger!
