What's the funniest single panel cartoon you've ever seen?

Plagarism!

I also love the Calvin & Hobbes snowmen cartoons.

Also, Bizarro has too many to mention, but I like this one a lot.

Charles Addams is another from whom I can’t pick just one comic to save my life (and that said, all of the Addams panels posted here thus far are great), but I’ve always loved this one since first going through my folks’ Addams books as a nine year old.

John Callahan had some great ones, but this was one of my favorites.

The Far Side is what I immediately thought of when I saw the thread topic.

I do like the suggestion that they write that spot down.

Or the look on the face of the explorer who forgets to empty his boots in the morning.

Or the sheriff’s suggestion that they “take the big horse”.

I see the big horse in the comic, but I’m not sure I get it.

My favorite, which I can’t find online: another Far Side. This one has nice grassy hills, and a sunrise in the background. In the foreground, a tree. A monkey-like being has just fallen out of the tree, flat on its belly, with a very surprised expression on its face. The caption reads, “The dawn of man.”

Can’t narrow it down to a specific one, but it’s probably one of Jeff Bacon’s Broadside cartoons.

Probably one of Jeff Bacon’s Broadside cartoons, though I can’t name a specific one.

Maybe this one. Or this one. Or this one. Or this one

They’d be able to catch the bad guys a lot faster? Just like today, a cop might say “We’ll take the SUV!” or something like that? :dubious:

Obviously, you could choose Larsen strips for a year. I have one Mr. Boffo strip that I’ve enjoyed for years.

It shows a man in a crate, which is plummeting from a skyscraper. Written on the crate is ‘This side up’ which is, indeed, the side that is up.

The caption reads: “Finalist - least amount of silver lining”

Grizzlies from Hell

Speaking of Dennis the Menace: Dennis and his friend are in his Dad’s workshop. There’s a calendar with a nekkid woman on the wall. Dennis says, “she’s some friend of the family who lost all of her clothes in a fire.”

I saw it as cruisin’ in the big Olds sedan with the whole family, like when it was a big deal to go for a ride. Nowhere to go, just for a ride. Otherwise, we’d take the Corvair or Bug to go to work and back.

ymmv, of course

In the second set, both comics are improved significantly.

Great thread idea!

My favorite is from the New Yorker - 2 pill bugs at a sex therapist: “Every time I touch him he rolls up into a ball”. So old I can’t find it online!

Close second is Mr. Spontaneous.

The Passive Aggressive Raven

Another vote for Charles Addams. My personal favorite: http://www.newyorker.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/ToonNewsletter7.jpg

Is any of the National Lampoon Artwork available anywhere?

I long to have a copy the '70’s double panel picture of the <university> middle earth society (skinny guy, fat girl, etc) suddenly and magically transported to another world to defeat a real dragon …
