I did a search and this doesn’t appear to have been asked before. If it has, my apologies.
Post the furthest north, south, east and west you have been. If possible, give the relevant co-ordinate (this site might be useful). If you can’t, don’t worry about it. Air travel doesn’t count and don’t post it if you haven’t been further than the airport. We’ll see which doper has been furthest in each direction. I won’t be a contender for that accolade but I’ll start.
North - Edinburgh, Scotland (55°55’N)
South - Sydney, Australia (33°52’S)
East - Cape Byron, Australia (153°38’E)
West - Vancouver, Canada (123°10’W)
Looking over my above post, two other shocking things came to mind.
I think my current location (Arlington, in the middle of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex) is farther east than Austin. :smack:
I have never seen the FUCKING OCEAN in my entire life. I was young, but I don’t recall seing it when we were in San Diego, so I honestly think I have never laid eyes on the ocean. Sad… sad…
North: Just north of the Idaho-Canada line (49° 0’ N)
South: Mexico City, Mexico (19° 24’ N)
East: Merida, Mexico (89° 38’ W)
East (within US): Wichita, Kansas (97° 25’ W)
West: Crescent City, California (124° 12’ W)
Dude, drive to the Gulf of Mexico (qualifies as Ocean for me, although technically it’s not).
North: Edinburgh 55° 55’N
South: Buenos Aires 34° 35’ S
Um, also what would be considered the extremes for East and West? Is it in relation to my current location, the Prime Meridian, or the International Dateline?
Furthest north: Helsinki, Finland (60n10, 24e58).
Furthest west: Tofino, BC, Canada (49n09, 125w54)
Furthest south: Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, south of Big Sur, California, USA (which is 36n16, 121w48).
Furthest East: Helsinki (again).
Would like to go to: Australia and New Zealand. Among other places.
North: Bangor, Maine, USA
South: Tegucigalpa, Honduras
East: Somewhere along the Maine coast, USA, but I don’t know a city or town name to check.
West: Just over the Texas state line after driving west from Lake Charles, LA. I have no idea where I chose to turn around, but that is likely it.
I don’t win.
North: Brora, Scotland: 58.01° N
South: Tampa, FL (near the Westshore Plaza area): 27.94° N
West: Pacifica, CA: 122.49° W
East: Noisy-le-Sec, France: 2.46° E
No, I don’t know what I was up to in Brora, either.
North: Prince Rupert, Canada 54:35:42N
South: Lumsden, NZ 45:43:06S
East: Taveuni, Fiji 180 E
West: Taveuni, Fiji 180 W
I guess I’m at least assured a tie in the East/West sub-category…
Nice one pipper. It must have been fun jumping back and forward from today to yesterday and back to tomorrow (my head hurts). I presume that the line itself dodges around land.
