What's the furthest north, south, east and west you've been?

According to my googling, Inuvik is at 68°21’, whereas Tuk (I feel like a local now;)) is at 69°26’. Obviously, I have never been next nor near any of these places but I’m starting to get itchy feet. Of course, I value my marriage so I’ll probably never get there.

manwithaplan, let me amend my southern slightly to Apollo Bay’s 38s45, a sleepy little Great Ocean Road town between Melbourne and the 12 Disciples that’s slightly south of both.

We’d take our choppers several miles north of Spy Island’s Dewpoint and land on the pack ice, always wondering how closely we were being tracked. I wasn’t familiar with “White Alice” though until googling after your post. Interesting.

From Houston, TX

North = Vancouver, BC
South = Sydney, Australia
West = Singapore
East = Several spots on Eastern Seaboard of USA. Haven’t made it to Europe yet.

lieu, just to nitpick (apologies)
They are called the Twelve Apostles, not the Twelve Disciples

And a stunning piece of scenery they are, too.

Thanks phraser as that wasn’t a nitpick but a much needed correction. Appreciate that and yeah, they’re pretty awesome.

North: St. Andrews, Scotland
South: Whakapapa, New Zealand
East: Rotorua, New Zealand
West: Guayaquil City, Ecuador

…and to add an extra dimension…

Highest: Around 4100m (On a bus! Crossing the Andes from Quito to the Amazon.)

Alert, Nunavut: Geographic Coordinates: 82.497° N
Not too many people, but as of this moment in time a ‘permanent’ settlement.

I was wondering who would bring up height.

I’ve never been out of the continental US.

North: Fargo, North Dakota
South: Dallas, Texas
West: San Fransciso, California
East: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Sigh.

Though I do have aspirations of visiting Australia… anyone want to sponsor a trip?

Inuvik is as far north as the road goes. In the winter months (late December through April) the frozen Mackenzie river is plowed to create a seasonal ice road up to Tuk. The drive takes about 2 hours.

If we’re going to get into elevations,

highest: 3954m, at the summit of Mt. Robson
lowest: 116m, on a mixed-gas SCUBA dive.

North and East: Ebeemee Lake ME (45:41N, 69:10W)
South: Naples FL (26:09N, 81:44W)
West: Houston TX (29:45N, 95:22W)

Minneapois MN (45:00N, 93:11W) gets very narrowly beaten out by Ebeemee Lake and Houston.

Oh, but I have aspirations to visit Melbourne, Australia in 2006. (crosses fingers)

North: London, 51n30 (I think I’ve been to Aberdeen, Scotland 57n10 as a baby)
South: Bluff, NZ 46s06 (Colibri still beats me)
East: Gisborne, NZ: 178e01
West: Los Angeles, 118w15

North: Seattle, WA
South: McMurdo Base, Antarctica
East: Christchurch, New Zealand
West: San Francisco, CA

North: Hell, Norway
South: near Fredericksted, St. Croix
East: east shore of lake Baikal
West: Ruby Beach in Olympia NP, WA

I’ve also been within 10 feet of the very easternmost point of land belonging to the US (excluding east becomes west in the Pacific)–on St. Croix…the US begins in the east as a prominence of razor sharp layers of vertical rock.

Take the wife! There’s plenty of … well. Perhaps Inuvik isn’t much of a tourist destination, unless you’re made of money and want to drive a dogsled. Or drink.

North-Reykjavik, Iceland
South-Cancun, Mexico
East-Munich, Germany
West-SF, California.

North: Reykjavik 64‹ 8’ N 21‹ 56’ E
South: Saipan, about 8‹N
East: Inubousaki, Japan (start from Tokyo and head due east until you get to the furthest little point of land there is)
West: Honolulu AP 21‹ 20’ N 157‹ 55’ W

I’ve also been to Anchorage, which just fell short of qualifying for north and west.

Juneau, AK - 58:22N
Auckland, NZ - 36:51S
Nadi, Fiji - 177:25E
Lihue, Kauai - 161:41W (and actually a bit more west on the island, but I can’t locate coordinates)

Gotta work on my south! And to think that I’ve been to Australia, Brazil, Tahiti - they all seemed south with a capital S.

South: Oranjestad, Aruba (12º33N, 70º04W)

North: Moncton, New Brunswick (46º07N, 64º47W)

East: Bridgetown, Barbados (12º59N, 59º30W) (This will change in 5 weeks though–I’m going to Rome with a school group)

West: Honolulu, Hawaii (21º22N, 158º00W)
