I was reading a book from the 40s and the prositute has to charge $25.00 for her services so she can get a hit of heroin.
Since that was quite some time ago, I was wondernig what is the going rate today.
I realize it’d vary, but just kind of wondering. Also what would be the rate a prostitute would charge for her “services” to get the money for a hit of heroin, or coke or crack or whatever
About $20. That’s about how much a “hit” costs.

For the sake of this research, I am assuming the USA as the country where the transactions will take place. Source for substance prices is World Drug Report 2012 (and associated sublinks for each substance). Data is for 2010 and is in inflation-adjusted 2010 US$ dollars.
Current market price for heroin $450/g.
Cocaine is $169/g.
Methamphetamine (pharam-grade) can run up to $500/g but street prices are probably about $300/g.
The costs of service appears to be somewhat dependent upon traffic and availability, but a good estimate is about $40 for a session of oral sex and $75 for a session of intercourse.
Heroin can be found in ‘hit-sized’ dosages of about 0.10 grams which comes to about $4.50 a hit.
In inflation adjusted dollars for 1940, the prostitute would be charging $384.87 for her services in 2010 (The Inflation Calculator). This seems a bit steep to me.
It appears that the price of sex and drugs have been monitarily devalued over the past 70 years.

It depends on the city and area, heroin gets more expensive the more rural it is. You might be better off using Silkroad if you’re not in a good spot, on SR prices are HIGH but using reviews you can buy by purity.
In most major US cities a bag or balloon of heroin is $10-20 USD, this contains around 100mg of heroin give or take. A gram is $100-200, sometimes called a bundle.
I was on grand jury duty a couple of years ago for the county that has Jersey City, NJ. A lot of the cases heard were drug related, and most of the coke and heroin cases stated $5 a hit. The hit was in a little 1 inch (or so) zip lock bag. I don’t remember the amount of drug in the bag, but it was quite small. Maybe 0.1 grams. In dirt poor neighborhoods, $50 is a lot of money.
Proximity to the border with Mexico can make a difference, too. There’a a lot of cheap black/brown tar heroin when you get close to the border.
About $20, same as downtown.
I wonder if it was better quality back then. I would be afraid to buy legit drugs off the Internet, much less illegal off the street.
And what is a hit? Since the OP asked about a book, that could vary too, right?
I mean in the 40s maybe the drugs were quality, where now they are mostly filler.
I recall reading a some book by Betty “A Tree Grows In Brooklyn” Smith, where she gave going rates.
Like the whore charges $2, the street walker $5.00, the call girl $10 and so forth.
Also weren’t some drugs easier to get? I recall watching an old episode of “Maude” recently, where the subject was legalization of marijuana and Dr Harmon is giving prescriptions like candy to Walter and Maude.
So like Valium might have been easy to score illegally but hard to get now.

The price of pot has remained fixed for over Twenty years. Twenty Five Dollars for a Quarter of Mexican Brown. And One Hundred to One Twenty for a Quarter of Loud.
The old prices do seem really high for tricks if we’re talking street prostitutes as opposed to brothels. According to Venkatesh the prices in Chicago are around $25 for a hand job to around $90 for the back way in, with a discount if paid directly in drugs. (Not posting exact dollar amounts due to copyright).

I’m paying twice what I did back in AZ. Its all location as far as I’m concerned. Back when I was in Hawaii, I’d pay 50 for an ounce that would make everyone reading this thread just go all zoned and stop posting because they had the munchies.
In atlanta .1 is worth between 10-20$ depending on who and where you are getting it from and the quality of it. A half a gram is usually anywhere from 50-80$(some people try to charge more but it’s so readily available you have to lower your price) and a gram is between 100-200
Coke is usually 30-60 dollars a gram or you can buy like 5$ and 10$ pieces of crack for something cheaper.
And now a days prostitutes use the Internet and will charge anywhere from 20- couple hundred dollars. The street walkers probably are pretty cheap and then escorts are hundreds
