What's the going rate for the tooth fairy these days?

In the olden days, I got $0.25.

My kid gets a buck.

I don’t remember what I got as a kid for each tooth (way too long ago). My daughters (now 14 and 16) got a $1 coin for each tooth they lost. For me the coins were easy to come by since the postage stamp machine I sometimes buy stamps at dispenses dollar coins in change when you buy stamps.

I was giving $5 a tooth but that got too expensive so I started giving gum/toothbrushes/costume jewelry

About 14 years ago, I got a quarter a tooth. About five years later, my sister got a dollar a tooth. I felt quite cheated.

Wasn’t this my thread? Did someone change my name to Hokkaido Brit when I wasn’t looking?

Ooops…never mind. Here’s a link to my recent thread if you are interested.

We settled on $2. Now, another tooth is loose!

Anything less than a dollar is a ripoff.

Have you seen the commercial about the tooth fairy being bogged down by a huge bag of coins? She goes to the store and runs the coins through a machine to get folding money.

This makes no sense to me. She should be loaded down with teeth, right?

I guess she’s going to stop leaving coins and start leaving dollar bills.

A dollar here. Wait until well after they are asleep, fold it and palm it, if they wake up pretend to be covering them up, say they looked cold, go back and try later. They usually don’t remember if they wake up, so it’s no biggie.

Thanks for directing me to your thread, Tamex - it was interesting. I wonder if there are any questions left to ask The Teeming Millions!

Reading all the comments we have decided to go for 500 yen which is a bit less than five dollars but will buy way less than it would in the USA. (Maybe about 2-3 dollars buying power…)

500 yen is what we gave our little cricket when he started loosing teeth. For a while he was loosing them really fast, I believe 6 teeth in a span of 3 months, but it has been 3 years since he lost his last one and finally he has a new wiggler. If you do stick to the 500 yen idea, make sure you keep a few stockpiled for those emergencies.

$2 Australian here. Thats because it is our largest denomination coin.Though I must say the tooth fairy would starve if s/he relied on my kid, he is the slowest tooth looser around. Which is just as well given my financial position.
