What's the last song you heard and liked instantly?

Same artist, different song: “My Mama’s Broken Heart.”

Bumping the thread to add Tabla Toy by Beats Antique. I love bellydance-type music, and this has a nice modern flair.

Keep in mind: My brain? It’s a strange place.

But…this…this is my latest ‘heard it, loved it, OMG, had to have the album’ song. (Green Day’s Basket Case, as covered by Japanese voice actress Haruna Ikezawa.) It…it’s just…there are no words, aside from ‘wat?’ and ‘love!’

Not my favourite song on the album (Puncolle - Voice Actresses’ Legendary Punk Song Collection), but the rest I listened to because of that one.

Some other good ones: Mai Kadowaki’s take on Pretty Fly (For a White Guy), Kaori Shimizu’s Blitzkrieg Bop (Oh, Goddess, that intro!), Haruko Momoi doing Blondie’s Call Me (which is a rather straighter take than the others), and just to totally break your brain, let’s hear her do the Exploited’s Sex and Violence.

There’s just so something awesomely bizarre about the whole thing.

Somebody That I Used to Know

By Koyte, featuring Kimbra. I’d never heard of either of them, but immediately fell in love with the song when I first heard it yesterday.

I have new ones:
Gotye “Easy Way Out
Good with Grenades “Bruises and Bitemarks

Cantaloop. I’m crazy about it.

Is there a cover, or has nothing grabbed you in the past 19 years?

Aphrodite’s Child - The Four Horsemen

I was listening to a mix tape of prog rock or might have been a compilation, I knew the song was a keeper even before the amazing guitar solo kicked in just by the wacked out delivery of the lyrics by what was obviously a non english speaker.

Amazing song.

Talk That Talk by Rihanna

I have a new one: Emmylou by First Aid Kit. A nice homage to Gram Parsons featuring some sweet pedal steel and two surreally twangy Swedish gals.

Hope this commercial counts as a song. I’ve got a new Strat and can’t get over it. Have to fess up to a crush on the girl too. I’ve done the Google-foo on her already. Education Connection.

The last song I heard and liked instantly Is still my favorite even after a couple of years. Ladies and gentlemen… Joe Bonamassa.

Pendulum - Set me on Fire
Your enjoyment of this song strongly correlates with how much you turn up the base. I listened to song constantly for about a week then got sick of it. BUT I did like it instantly.

I came into this thread to post this very song. Kudoes, sir.

I just heard this song the other day and holy damn do I love it. Been listening to it a lot.

Walls of Time by Ricky Scaggs. Trying to pick the chords out on the guitar now.

Nice version!

Anything by Pitbull. Sure his lyrics can be a little savagey at times but he has an amazing talent for coming up with original melodies. I must’ve downloaded 30 of his songs.
And not exactly recent but never forget Albert King - best blues guy of all time.

Isn’t it badass?! This is a really cool take on the same song:

(It’s Gotye, btw. I F’d that up)

I like Pumped Up Kicks, too! I heard some of it on the radio and spent an inordinate amount of time on the computer later trying to find out the name of it.

I liked Time Bomb by Beck when it played during closing credits of a True Blood episode.

(that seems to be how I find most of my new music - songs in the background of TV shows.)
