this was inspired by the thread on Rule 240 does your company have a phrase where a customer says it they get better treatment
I once received much better service from an ISP after the customer service guy I spoke to “hinted” that I might want to say “I’m very angry with this and am thinking of taking the matter further”.
We always respond very quickly to “I have a gun.”
A theater company I know has “magic words” for friends and family who wish to get into performances for free.
For all other companies I have known, the magic word is some form of “I am a friend / neighbor / relative / acquaintance of (insert CEO’s name here).”

RealityChuck, I laughed so hard I scared my dogs.
I once went to a hotel near the beach in NC, and they had no rooms, but the check-in person told me she used to work at a Holiday Inn on the beach, and if I used a certain phrase, I could get a cheaper room. When I tried it, I got the rooms for $25/night. I just looked up their rates on the web–over $175 per night.
The magic word is IMHO.
I guess I’m just old-fashioned. People get better service from me when they say “please” and “thank you.”
I work at a shipyard, so the magic words are “Some guy from SupShip wants to talk to you.”
