What's the most interesting car you saw today?

Speaking of broken down on the side of the road, yesterday afternoon I spotted an AC Cobra stopped on the shoulder of the interstate. The owner/driver looked concerned, and I’m guessing he was having problems.

Then, a few miles later on the same interstate there was an International Scout, circa 1963 or thereabouts. It was moving, not stopped.

This one was moving under its own power. An original K5 Chevy Blazer (69-72) with the top off. People are definitely taking advantage of the warmer weather and driving their summer cars.

The first real, live McLaren I’ve ever seen in the wild!

In Groveland, CA, I saw an old Willy’s pickup truck at a gas station, and spoke with the owner. It’s a ‘48, in very good condition. He bought it from a man whose father bought it new. It’s still a work truck, the bed full of stuff.

Groveland. Have a beer at the Iron Door Saloon!

I got to watch a buddy of mine replace the windshield in an oldschool Acura NSX a couple days ago.

Always on the lookout for “interesting” vehicles, I spotted these two recently:
Tito’s Vodka Truck ‘n’ Trailer
Golden Python Van

Porsche 924

My new one! An hour ago I bought a 2001 Honda Insight. One of the first hybrids.

Not the most practical… no back seat, can barely wedge a bike in (with its butt hanging out the back), and almost no storage.

But it’s quirky!

Congrats digs!

I used to have one of those. But I liked my 911 better.

Speaking of 911s, there was one in the lane next to me today; a new one. White. I don’t know how interesting that is to most people, but 911s seem rarer up here than they did in L.A. And the 911 I used to have was white.

A couple of days ago, while waiting for a bus across from the hospital in Belleville, Ontario, I saw what must have been a hundred-year-old Model T or similar car. Skinny bicycle wheels and tires, replica licence plate alongside a regular Ontario plate (not an Ontario “historic vehicle” plate - I understand that those come with all sorts of restrictions), and chugging merrily along at about 40 km/h.

Looking at pics of the Model T, it seems to be a more substantial car than the one I saw. So I don’t know what it was…

Interesting for it’s details. Yesterday I was passed by a red C7 Corvette… with government plates… blasting “Dancing Queen” by ABBA.

Had the privilege of spotting a 1958 Ford Edsel Roundup in the wild the other day. According to Wiki, there was only 963 Roundups ever made. The one I saw was light yellow with black trim and had its original license plate. It wasn’t mint (the front passenger quarter panel was a slightly darker shade of yellow) but it looked in great shape.

The cool thing is that not only was it made in the year I was born but the factory that turned it out was located only a few miles from our house near Detroit. One way or another, we both managed to migrate out to Tacoma, WA.

A mid-sixties Ford, maybe a Falcon. A hot rod, engine sounded really beefy, big tires on the back and little skinny ones up front.

Triumph TR6

Congrats; that’s a very cool car. I wanted one, badly. They possess a rare combination of characteristics: very high mpg, fun to drive, and available with a manual transmission. Unlike most Hondas, they were hand-assembled, alongside the NSX. I started looking for a good used one, but then Wife angrily pointed out that I’d have no car with a back seat, which we occasionally need. She was right, but the 2007 Fit I bought was not nearly as fun.

Porsche Boxster, but this one was white with its dark brown top up — looking very sharp.

1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1, black with red striping. Very sharp!

A red Triumph TR6.
