What's the most interesting car you saw today?

Friend drove his fully-functional VW Westfalia van down to the house tonight. I hate to admit it, buts its pretty damn cool.

I don’t normally pay much attention to cars, but today something unusual passed me so I got behind it to see what it was. It was a Fairlady Z. I’d never heard of it and looked it up when I got home. From the pictures I saw, I think it was an older model. Cute little car.

I saw a Kübelwagen or a damn good replica this morning

Tomorrow morning I will be having a product briefing for M cars - so I’ll be going through the worlds most powerful SUV, then the M5, M3, 135M…in the afternoon I’ll be going to the Apina dealership…

Rather looking forward to it

I hate you a little right now bengangmo. :). You are obviously not in the us as you are going to an Alpina dealer! An Alpina convertible in blue with cream leather is my dream car.

I just got back from a 12 day vacation in Iceland and saw a bunch of very unusual vehicles. Will post some photos shortly, but lets just say I wouldn’t want to meet some of them in dark alley. The Icelanders like their trucks.

I was in Vegas last week and saw lots of fun stuff. Several Ferrari 458s, a newer gull wing Mercedes, a McLaren. I even rented a Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 one day.

I saw a VW van last week in nice shape; surprised me when I realized I’ve only seen them online for years.

Today I saw a 1980s 4WD mini pickup all jacked up 35" tires, full cage the whole bit. It was in very nice shape.
I thought I was back in 1985 again.

An Audi R8, white, parked along the street in Cambridge between an old broken down Hyundai and a modest Ford Escape.

I met a Chevy SSR on the road today. I had never seen one before & was surprised to find that it was a model produced from 2003-2006. I thought it looked cool, but I guess it wasn’t enough of a pickup truck to go over big.

I love seeing a Veyron in the wild! The most amazing part (for me) is that with only about 400 built, we have at least half a dozen here in Atlanta that I know of.

Have lunch out on Piedmont, or hang out in Buckhead for a day or two at most and you will spot one.

I suspect I’ll never have one, but I am pursuing the possibility of actually meeting an owner next week or so. Perhaps a drive?

Granted, the Veyron was parked on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, where it’s probably not so unusual of a sight, but still, I was like a little kid. OOH! VEYRON! So were many other passersby. One woman was touching the car while posing for a photo with it … grrrr!

EDIT: It’s this car.

Last Thursday, I think – but I’m not quite sure – I saw an Equus Bass 770 (Flash page with sound) in Malibu, on the Pacific Coast Highway. If it wasn’t, it was a damn good one-off, with the front of a vintage 1960s Dodge Challenger, and rear of a 1960s Mustang fastback.

In the interests of fair disclosure, you should show him some of your dashcam videos before he lets you anywhere near the car.

Saw an unusual truck on the opposite side of 128 yesterday, didn’t get a great look at it but it seemed to be a cab over pickup or small truck of some sort. A quick Google image search found this which seems about right

Interesting vehicle, I’m not sure I’ve seen one before.

I did manage to avoid trouble driving the Ferrari California the other day, so there’s hope yet!

To see some beautiful cars—old and new—check out Doug DeMuro’s nice little video from this year’s classic car week at Monterey. There’s dozens of new supercars like McLarens and Aventadors and F599s and Bentleys and 458s, but the really good stuff is the classic exotics like the Maserati Ghibli and Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona and Lamborghini Espada and Mercedes 300SL (coupe and convertible) and Porsche 356, and even a BMW M1. There’s also a few of my teenager dream exotics, like the Countach and Testarossa.

I’ve been a car lover since i was a kid. When i was a teenager, every spare dollar i had went on car magazines, and i could rattle of engine displacement, power and torque, and performance numbers for a whole range of exotics. I still love cars, and spend a bunch of time reading about them on sites like Jalopnik.

And i cannot stand the Bugatti Veyron.

Sure, it’s an impressive piece of engineering, but it is fucking butt-ugly, and it screams “wanker magnet.” It strikes me as a car designed specifically to attract asshole oil sheiks and fashion designers and hedge fund douchebags, none of whom care very much about cars, but who want to be able to own the Fastest and the Most Expensive.

Did i mention that it’s fucking ugly?

And although they’ve only built about 400 of them, they feel the need to make the car artificially even more exclusive by dividing those 400 cars into about 26 (i’m not kidding) different “special editions,” just so your Veyron is different from everyone else’s Veyron.

I’m not sure if i’ve mentioned this yet, but it’s also fugly as fucking fuck.

I get quite satisfied to see that Veyrons that originally sold for around $2 million can now be had for closer to $1 million. I know that the type of people who buy these cars have more money than God anyway, but that is some pretty wild depreciation.

Think about it: for the amount that this guy has lost in depreciation, you could buy a Ferrari 458, a Porsche 911 Turbo, an Aston Martin DB9 V12, and Z07 Corvette, with thousands left over for gas, tires, and some lap time at your local racetrack.

And all of those cars look miles better than a Veyron, which, in case i forgot to mention it earlier, is fucking ugly.

To the tune of “Blame Canada” say “Blame Ferdinand.” Ferdinand Piech pushed thru the Veyron because he wanted/wants a “legacy car.” His cousin “Butzi” Porsche designed the 911 and it’s endured but the family was kicked out of the day-to-day business so the rest of the Porsche family was shut out.

It actually is a fitting legacy - it’s a cynical, brute force push at making something special at all cost (they lost money on every one despite the price).

For reals.

ducati since you like causing accidents* I’d advise against driving any expensive cars you do not own. You wouldn’t want the owner to sue you and take your house or something.

*From this post of yours back in March.

The first link shows you not letting a UPS truck merge for no reason and almsot causing an accident and the second link shows you slamming hard on your brakes for no reason and causing an accident behind you that ended up hitting your car.

Sometimes it works -

the M3 I would term as scary fast!

Have also seen two Veyrons - the original McClaren (it still had the delivery lug nuts on it), arranged a photoshoot for the Reventon,

In a different place saw an Espada, and a Pullman (neither in a museum)

When I did the dealership tour mentioned above, also got to see a BMW850…

PS - I provide some of the content for ///M Cars facebook here in Singapore…
