What's the most interesting car you saw today?

HO-LEEE SHIT!!!

There’s a late 60’s or early 70’s short wheel base Land Rover in the parking lot at work today. No doors or windows, it’s a beater for sure.

The first one the UPS truck tries to make a change from the 3rd lane to the 1st all at one time a very short distance before the turn. I wouldn’t have been watching that nor expecting it. It clearly drove him into the curb. The UPS driver was in the wrong as he had no right to merge into a lane with traffic without any warning. He didn’t let him not merge for no reason, he got cut off.

The second you can’t see what was happening in front of him… why do you assume he hit his brakes for no reason. If the car in front of him slammed on the brakes wouldn’t you expect him to do the same? Apparently he successfully stopped without hitting the car in front of him, but the car two behind didn’t.

It is hard to choose between the McLaren F1, the DB9, the Lamborghini Aventador Roadster, the 15 Cadillac XLR’s, the 10 Deloreans, the Packard the size and weight of a tank, the original AC Cobra, or the slews of Mustangs, Corvettes, Lotuses, GTO’s, etc. Ok, so it was a car show, it was still fun and this one is my favorite because they don’t focus on any one type of car so there is something for everyone. Unfortunately the weather was “iffy” so 57 of the entrants didn’t show up but there were still about 200 cars there.

If I have to pick one it would be the 1969 Boss Shelby GT 350. The reason is it is the only one there is. It was the car Shelby was working on when the program was discontinued in May of '69. They finished this one and didn’t do any of the other 31 they planned to make. A true “One of One.”

Extra bonus is that I ran into a good friend who I don’t see often and found out he had a '66 427 Corvette convertible he was showing that he is going to let me drive soon.

Yesterday I saw a bumper sticker that I’ve occasionally (though rarely) seen in the last few years: a blue square with two lateral gold bars, and no words. At the next stop light I asked the driver about it and she said it’s for the EU. I tried searching for this sticker but after a few minutes was not able to locate one, but the colors and bars are similar to the Euro symbol seen here:

(Except for the lateral bars in her bumper sticker, the bar ends are squared off instead of diagonally cut like in this image.)

The most interesting car I saw today…on the computer. But I’m hoping to see one for real in 2015: The Renovo Coupe

At the beach in CT I saw a Stanley Steamer today. Very interesting and sounded very different from all other cars.

I was passed by a beautifully restored jet-black 1948 Cadillac the other day: I drove slowly so I could ogle while I let it pass because it was such a beautiful thing.

Comme ça?

I saw a mint, gorgeously glossy blue Dodge Viper this morning whilst dropping the kids off at school. I think it was one of the older ones (late 90s, perhaps) but I couldn’t pinpoint which year.

I realized that that tiny car has a larger engine (a LOT larger!) than my minivan.

This.

Please note the solid white line delineating the turn lane that the UPS driver crosses.
It is illegal to do so in most states.

And, indeed, traffic was slowing in front of me. Why the hell would I stop on a busy Interstate highway? To get hit? Tough way to make a living, if that’s what you’re thinking.
The more you know…

The animal shelter I volunteer at is across the street from the California Automobile museum. Today we saw an old timey produce truck being unloaded. Not sure of the model, but it had a Ford badge. Like something you would see around the turn of the last century.

A nice MG convertable (couldn’t see which model) in British racing green commuting to work in the last gasp of summer before Labor Day weekend. The driver looked very content.

Acura NSX on the way to work this morning.

I like the look of the new NSX, which should be available next year. It looks a bit similar to the Ferrari 458 in places, but that’s not a bad thing.

Yesterday I saw an Aston Martin Rapide “in the wild” (the first time)

I went to the launch of both this car and on a different occasion a showcase of the 177 (where a friend drove a Jensen Interceptor).

Saw a Ferrari Testarossa on the way to work this morning.

Maserati Grandturismo convertible on the drive home yesterday. A very striking looking car.

Another Bugatti Veyron sighting in Southern California and yes, my head did do that 180 swivel thing that owls do. I suspect it was tooling around after visiting the Irvine Cars and Coffee meeting as it was in that general area.

1955 red Corvette convertible.
