Today I saw an early 1980s Toyota Celica in very nice shape for its age.
Also a canary yellow Alfa Romeo Spyder with some front end damage.
Lastly an otherwise ordinary plain white pickup, but it was interesting because it was flying both a Mexican and American flag from its bed. I’ve seen pickups driving aroung flying huge American flags before, but this was the first time I’ve seen a Mexican flag paired with it.
I saw what I’m assuming was a Pontiac Fiero with a body kit to make it look like a Ferrari. It looked kind of like a mini Testarossa, but but a lot of the details looked sort of “off”.
1965 Chevy Impala. Very nice . Painted Charcoal Metallic. Not sure if that’s a factory correct color but it looked very good on the car. Chevy rally wheels. Well done!
This was the most interesting car I didn’t see today.
There has been a red Fiat 500 parked in the lot of a banquet hall/restaurant I pass during my evening commute since the Illinois lockdown started about March 20th. I’m 100% sure it hadn’t moved until today.
For months, it has sat there, the grass growing under it’s front end, out of reach from the landscapers’ mowers. It’s kittycorner from O’Hare airport (Mannheim & Irving for locals). I’ve often wondered about what happened to the owner. Did they drive there to take a much cheaper Uber ride and avoid parking fees only to get stuck somewhere over seas? Did they die from Corona virus while travelling to some domestic hotspot early in the pandemic? It was very conspicuous since the place was closed for months and it was the only car in the huge lot.
It was there yesterday and gone today. I hope everything worked out.
I also saw a Dodge Stealth with R/T badges. I couldn’t get too close but I only saw exhaust tips on the right side. I lusted after these when they first came out. Twin turbo, AWD, all wheel steering (!). In decent shape, though not perfect.
The car itself wasn’t interesting enough for me to take note of what it was. Some sort of pick up truck mostly covered in primer. What grabbed my attention was the “Dukakis/Bentsen” sticker on the back window.
I’m not that familiar with Packards, but I saw what I think is a 1950 Packard Deluxe parked in a driveway. It was in pretty good condition, it could use a paint job and some body work. No idea what’s it like under the hood.
Yesterday I saw a hot rod on the freeway in Seattle. I think it was a chopped Deuce Coupe. The body looked like it had a lot of surface rust. I’m guessing the owner left it that way intentionally. The uncovered engine was painted metal-flake gold.
At lunchtime I saw a black Porsche 928. Good to see them still on the road.
A turquoise Porsche 914 with black accents. A car I loathed style wise as a kid as I always thought the Karmann Ghia was a much better looking car. I’ve softened my stance somewhat but it’s still the ugliest Porsche car they made.
I disagree. When I was a kid I thought they looked pretty cool. Now they look fun. Personally, I think the newer Porsche SUVs are the ugliest Porsches made – AND they violate the concept of what a Porsche is.
That’s why I said car. Porsche SUV is sacrilege. But; I did see a murdered out Macan GTS today that I think would be a fun grocery getter. As much as I hate the idea of all these great car makers making SUV/CUVs some of them have done a pretty good job looks wise. The Jag F Pace and AR Stelvio both carry that extra bulk in a good way; the Maserati Levante, Bently Bentayga and the Lamborghini Urus should all be buried in a deep hole and forgotten about.
Now throw a Porsche driveline into a Karmann Ghia and you’d have a very fun little car, like this one.
An Acura TSX Sport Wagon. That car kind of flew under my radar. I don’t think I ever realized Acura ever offered a station wagon, or if I did I’d completely forgotten about it.
According to the numbers on Wikipedia, they only sold 4,234 wagons in 2012, which was the best sales year for the wagon version.
