What's the most interesting car you saw today?

I’m guessing it was. If Wikipedia is to be believed, the stock GLH had a normal 5-speed manual.

A bit odd that I knew of more than one Omni with the twin stick. But I can understand why.

I’d never heard of a car with a twin shift. Was the GLH using a Mitsubishi engine?

It was officially called the Mitsubishi Super Shift. Apparently it came about when they were adapting their 4-speed transmission for front wheel drive cars. An idler gear would have been required to make the transmission turn the correct direction, and someone had the the idea of making it a secondary 2-speed gearbox rather than a simple idler gear. That gave them the fuel economy of a 5-speed without the expense of developing a new 5-speed transmission. Technically the twin-stick gave you eight gear ratios, but in practice most people used it like a 5-speed, shifting through 1-4 with the second shifter in low, then shifting it into high when they reached highway speed.

IIRC it used the Chrysler 2.2L turbo.

I saw a silver 60’s vintage ('66 maybe) Ford Thunderbird, in silver. Pretty cherry.

Mercedes-Maybach S 680.
First Maybach I’ve ever seen.

Really stood out in the parking lot.

It probably is! Next time I’m on that road I’ll stop and take a closer look at her. It can’t be easy being green.

In two consecutive days I spied two Audis in bright colors.

The first was that bright green, on Monday, and posted above. The second was this orange one on Tuesday. It was gassing up in a color coordinated manner.

Now that does appear to be a stock color, one called “Pulse Orange”.

This Lightcycle-looking Mclaren:

911 cabriolet. It’s missing the manual transmission and a third pedal.

A 1965 Dodge Dart, a 3rd generation. She is clean and white and straight. Pretty nice.

Thanks.

I saw that bright green Audi again, and I took a real close look. Yes it is a wrap job — see the yellow circles.

Wow. I wouldn’t expect such wide panel gaps on an Audi. ( referring to middle photo )

I got passed on the freeway by a new Ferrari F8 Spider this morning. Looking at pictures online, I recognize the distinctive round taillights. And the driver had the top down, making it obviously the Spider version. And I know it was new, because it still had the temporary paper license plate.

Today I saw not one, but two Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell cars on the road. The interesting thing is that you can sometimes see a cloud of water vapor spew out the tailpipe as they accelerate.

Also, this classic BMW 2002.

I’m not sure if the missing bumpers are the result of an accident, or an aesthetic choice on the part of the owner. That damage behind the front fender suggests it could be the former, but the fact the rear bumper is missing as well points to the latter.

I saw a Mini with the “union jack” tail lights. I’d seen them before, but this was the first time I saw the blinker on. It points the wrong way. It really does look confusing.
Congratulations, Mini, You Made The Stupidest Turn Signals Ever (jalopnik.com)

Apparently my neighbor has a Polestar 2. This car is really growing on me.

So did the 1957 - '59 Mercurys.

The Polestar 2 is probably my favorite EV on the market right now. If for some reason I needed a new car tomorrow, that would be my first choice.
