What's the most interesting car you saw today?

Do you think that BMW painted to look like a futuristic Duracell on purpose?

Interesting observation. There are several of these around me, but when I see them, they are almost always white with blue accents, or the blue with black.

Try to sit in one if you get a chance. It’s almost impossible to get in and out without seriously cracking your skull on the lower edge of the door if you are average height or above

The i8s that I’ve seen are white with black accents, or white with blue accents. That copper colored one is an interesting color.

On Sunday, I saw a (apparently pristine) Ferrari Dino GT. I didn’t think to take a picture and I didn’t know which model it might be, until I found the badging I saw on the back of the car online:

From the pictures I could find online, it looks like it might have been a mid-70’s model. It was very angular and didn’t have headlight bulges. It also had a rigid, black, textured hardtop which led me to believe it might be a hardtop convertible.

Technically speaking, not a Ferrari. The Dino brand was a project in partnership with Fiat to make a lower cost, V-6 based sports car without cheapening the Ferrari brand.

The 206 and 246 (you saw one of these) is the most commonly seen Dino in the US (and commonly has owner applied Ferrari badging, much to the dismay of ‘real’ Ferrari owners.

My favorite though is the Fiat Dino Spider, one of which I came close to buying, and idea that I’m still kicking around.

I also came very close to buying a 246 Targa back when I bought my Lotus. At the time, it would have been about the same amount of cash (ignoring the cost of maintaining a vintage Italian sports car), but I could have had the Dino right away, while I was on a two year waiting list for the Lotus.

I got the Lotus, and had great fun with it. When I sold it six years later, I got about 60% of what I paid back out. Had I bought the Dino, well those doubled in value during that time and have continued to climb. Oops.

Ah, I was not looking at that site but BMW’s sales site.

@Pork_Rind I would have picked the Targa too. I’ve always loved the way they look.

They stopped making the i8 in 2020 so it wouldn’t be listed among the current models.

An Excalibur, maybe? It doesn’t look like a Zimmer and there aren’t many neo-classical car makes out there. If it is an Excalibur, it’s a bespoke chassis likely using a GM drivetrain.

It’s some sort of Mercedes replica and there were quite a few of those back in the day. An example of a very limited run is in this post.

Dunno but was still there today. I’m super curious about this unusual car that gets parked next to the airport for days or weeks at a time.

It might well be a Heritage. This example is powered by a 350 Chevy and sits on a Camaro chassis:

This just turned up in my Facebook feed:

Went out to pick up lunch, and spotted this primer gray and rust Dodge Charger R/T. Given the location of the rust I’m guessing it once had a vinyl top.

A ‘69, and it’s a shame it’s so beat. Worth some money, if someone can afford to put some money + time into it.

Spotted last night, got a poor, blurry photo at a stoplight. My guess is that it’s a 1960s era, it’s a convertible if that’s not apparent. Any help with an ID?

Seems to be a '67 Buick Skylark.

Wow, you’re good!

Thought it’s a '70 Ford at first but the backup lights are in the wrong place.

Looks very similar to my dad’s LTD. Maybe an LTD or Galaxy?

(ETA, this isn’t a picture of his car, I was just looking for the shape of the lights with the trim running between them.

ETA2

I see that now as well (and dad’s LTD was a 72).

See?
