I wonder if the kid is going to want the car. He/she was born in 2010 or so, so more than forty years after the car was produced. What connection, aside from the fact that his/her father owned it, will he/she have with the car?
And it came with a V8 engine… that made less horsepower than my Miata’s four cylinder. Yeah, I’m sure the emissions equipment of the time had a lot to do with that.
In the picture, you can see a small plaque on the driver’s door. A small plaque there would be a “Hemi” plaque. If that car is one of 258 Hemi Super Bees built in ‘69, the car is worth around $100k. Son/daughter should be happy to get that.
Today: A Cadillac XTS Hearse. If the Ghostbusters were on a mission today, would this be the new Ectomobile?
For comparison, the original Ectomobile from the 1984 movie, the Ecto-1, was a 1959 Cadillac Fleetwood Series 75 Hearse. It was a 25-year old car. Some would call it the ultimate road trip car.
Almost 40 years ago, people!
In 2010, Hot Wheels released the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 toy. One is available on Etsy for $28. (Hurry! Only 1 left!)
In the 1989 remake, Ghostbusters II, it was called the Ecto-1a and was a 1984 Cadillac Fleetwood Superior Sovereign Hearse.
A late-model Porsche Targa 4 GTS, spotted this morning. I only got a good look from behind but it looked like it had another badge, possibly a stylized SM. The driver had the top down on the interstate, an interesting choice given the 40 degree air temp at the time.
As long as it has the caterwauling screeching sirens, I say yes.
I thought the original was an ambulance, not a hearse.
If they were on a mission today? No, it should be a 1998 Cadillac Fleetwood hearse if they were on a mission today. The Ghostbusters always use cheap used cars. Now if they were on a mission 25 years in the future, that would be the car.
